Youri Tielemans

Just don’t see any reason he’d do that until the window is closed.

Yes, there are. Leicester apparently believe they can force him to sign a new deal.
I assume they’ll use the upcoming WC as leverage.
It’s important to note that Leicester don’t actually want to sell him and Brendan loves the lad.

Love how those pricks were touting a rebuild this summer yet they haven’t done jack shit in the market in terms of incomings and outgoings and and from what Ben said the other day, they are just very slow in general.

This whole saga hasn’t made sense to me. If we want him why don’t we just make an official bid? Wre we working on another midfielder behind the scenes that we see as priority? Otherwise I don’t see why we are delaying a deal that is seemingly easy to conclude

Yeah, they’re looking at September as a deadline for him to sign, which is very risky business.

He’s a hero in Leicester so I can see how he might be a little torn on this.

I don’t think he’s even remotely torn. He clearly wants the Arsenal move but if it doesn’t materialise then he’ll happily stay at Leicester as he doesn’t dislike being there. He would just clearly prefer to join the bigger club

But he’s not said this, per se. We don’t know that he wants to come here. And, again, if he’ll happily sign at Leicester, then surely he’s torn.

He’d sign the Arsenal contract in blood if he had to. There’s a reason he hasn’t signed a new deal at Leicester.

Signing an extension at Leicester is a consequence of no other club wanting to sign him and not because of any desire to remain at Leicester

Lol ok.

The only good reason is to steal him away from Man U in the last minute so we all can enjoy some Redcafe and chill.

This saga is weird because it was gaining way too much momentum, sometimes more than Jesus and then I think shortly after Spurs signed Bissouma and we signed Vieira it just paused.

Can’t concretely think of why but purely speculating:

  • Leicester are not willing to play ball and have set a unnecessary high price
  • Club has another midfielder in mind and Tielemans was just a backup
  • Club learned something about Tielemans that made them look away. Perhaps an injury concern.

Yeah, we’re looking at 25mil but Leicester are looking at closer to 32mil, or something?

Probably. And I think that’s the more likely scenario. Leicester are known for being hard to negotiate with and have no issue dragging things.

If he was really torn over any decision here the talk would be of an extension far more than a year. Purely a financial decision if he ends up signing that.

…and they haven’t signed anyone noteworthy themselves this close season. They may be looking for Tielemans to move to free up some cash to buy someone themselves.

Well, Leicester apparently think they can do that(force him signing a new deal). I guess they could tell him he ain’t getting game time this season if he doesn’t.
I believe he’s nowadays a starter for Belgium so you can imagine it isn’t something he wants.

I hope they’re not that petty but it’s Leicester, they probably are. Will serve them right if he gets assurances from Martinez about his spot though.

They can’t afford to deprive themselves of a player of his ability then lose him for free anyway. Also would harm them in future negotiating with other players. No credibility to that to be honest.

People don’t realise that only unambitious player like Vardy who are comfortable in their environment would stay at a club like Leicester. Tielemans may have enjoyed his time at Leicester but he’d leave for a bigger club in a heartbeat because he trusts his talents and wants to try himself at a higher level.

Same for Maddison last summer of the club were happy to pay the extravagant fees Leicester wanted then we’d have had him without a doubt.

Good players want to play for bigger clubs.

Liked for the shot at Vardy.

I don’t blame him he was 29 or so and had a good wage and a comfortable environment. A truly ambitious player would have backed himself to smash it at Arsenal and he probably would have to. He just preferred life at Leicester and I don’t blame him for that, uprooting yourself and taking a risk at that stage in his career isn’t for everyone

Vardy’s almost a miracle of a player, how he’s come up through the ranks and keeps going at his age (although I do think this could be his last season at this level)

He stayed at Leicester and became their greatest ever player. It’s either that legacy or come to Arsenal and maybe not even play…

If he did play here, though, I can’t see as many barren seasons outside the Champions League than we’ve already had.
