Terrible idea. I realize different positions, but Laca is much more valuable to the squad than Zaha would be.
Take the supposed 70 and instead buy some defenders. Balance and so forth mean little when you ship goals at the back way too much. FFS, buy some defenders Arsenal!
I don’t mind Zaha and think he would be a good addition, just not at the expense of Laca or Auba.
If the defense isn’t improved, I don’t think that a winger will be the difference for the top 4.

Nonsense. Vinai Venkatesham said a month ago that “every penny” the club generates is available to spend. If that’s true, there’s nothing to appeal to Kroenke for. Just more clickbait to cover for Arsenal apparently being ready to spend more than the Mail and others been claiming as the budget all along. Only a very few people inside the club really know what he actual budget is.

It’s actually something the media latched onto from an estimate by the Arsenal Supporters Trust in January. But they, themselves, said that they weren’t including the new commercial revenue that became available this month. One thing I’ve learned about the English football media is that they constantly feed off each other and if something is repeated enough times it becomes the gospel.

Whatever you might say about Zaha, his goal/assist stats don’t lie.
2016/17 7 goals 11 assists in 35 games
2017/18 9 goals 5 assists in 29 games
2018/19 10 goals 10 assists in 34 games
So consistently reaching ≈a goal or assist every 2 games.
And when playing on the left wing last season he got 6 goals and 6 assists from 15 games.
All while playing for a bottom half team.

I think we’ll end up signing him now, but it’ll be for a massive amount towards the end of the window (and we’ll all have to act like we’re happy with it)

Stats are only part of the story and some of them will have been in the same games. He is made for a youtube video this lad. Nice technique when on top of his game but your never going to see in the stats or video the countless times he is played out of games by opponents or wrong decision making that he has because of lack of awareness and elite ability.

Hmm, like I say, I’m 50/50 on this guy. He won’t need to “bleed in” to the side given that he’s a PL player but he also can’t cut it at a top 6 side.
Furthermore, the ridiculous price tag makes me wonder why we can’t use our scouting network to buy some young players from the continent. Possibly 4 or 5 players for 80mil.

Fixed the assist stats for you. You’re probably counting penalties won, but they are not included in the official assist stats.

Don’t see how the best player out of the Top 6 won’t be able to cut it IN the Top 6.
Gonna play guesswork here but I assume you’ve been turned off by him during his Man Utd days?
Personally never was that fond of him, even during his first run in Palace when we were linked with him.
Seeing him the past two years he’s been a different animal. The way he establishes himself in the pitch does not come easy. The fact that he makes Palace, who in theory don’t really have that bad of a team, look like a one man club says it all for me.
I think our average net spend each season is around 50m so I presume that’s where they have that figure from.
I know we spent 90m in one window on Xhaka, Mustafi and Perez but the season before that we spent nothing.
If it is around 50m, which is more than likely, it is just enough to get one decent player.
Ideally we need at least three or four top quality players, just to get us challenging for the top four places so, even if we do get Zaha, it won’t be nearly enough.
That’s not fixing anything, is an assist from a penalty somehow worth less than an assist from a free kick or open play goal?
If he gets 10 assists for arsenal next season, I couldn’t give two shits if half of them are winning penalties.
In fact to me with VAR coming in, high penalty assists last season is probably better than open play assists in terms of looking at potential future output.

There’s no need to get snarky over this.
I am not going to argue with you over something as straight forward as what constitutes an assist. Winning penalties doesn’t and it’s not a matter of opinion.
If you want to acknowledge his ability to win penalties, just add another column.
