Where are you going on holiday?

While everyone was in lockdown. I live near London so most places in Europe seem cheap.

Hoping to go to Athens in early-October, has anyone been and if so, any good recommendations on places to stay?

We also went in October a few years ago, weather will still be great btw. Stayed a little bit out of the centre but I don’t recall it being remotely difficult to get around town, had a nice airbnb with balcony.

Checked my old messages the nearest metro stop was ā€˜agios Nikolaos’ and supposedly took <10 mins to centre. Bit further from the piraeus area if you want to go there but still not far.

Honestly memory a little foggy but I wouldn’t say it was an area with loads going on - more just a bit cheaper and easy access to the centre.

Awesome, cheers mate.

I imagine it’s like most city centres where you can stay relatively close to all of the tourist stuff and dip in, dip out when you want.

Just deciding on if we do an air BnB or hotel or something.

@GC-Maniac you’d have some input here too, right?

Haven’t been to Greece in ages, especially Athens so I can’t recommend specific places(not sure if they’re there anymore). Best bet might a hotel.

Good thing with Athens and Greece in general is that it is relatively small country so going from one area to another shouldn’t be much of a problem.
Could get a taxi or use public transport to get to Piraeus, Aegina or Glyfada in under an hour.

Need stag do recommendations in Europe please, we’re probably looking at Spring 2026.

Europe including the UK btw, doesn’t necessarily have to be abroad, though it does sometimes feel like that’s the expectation these days.

Don’t bother saying Amsterdam, far too much potential to make a large number of female partners feel nervous/angry :joy:

Also not Dublin, I’m organising for one of my two best men and he took me to Dublin for mine, so that’s out.

@Starboy I’m looking at you here especially as our resident partyboy

Answer in the morning bro I’m doing my best not to destroy the forum :joy:

Absolutely avoid Benidorm. I went a few years ago, awful place. Best mate has just got back from a few days there and fucking hated it :rofl::rofl:

You couldn’t pay me a million to visit that fucking hell hole. The worst type of British people go there. Even the name gives me a shiver

Bucharest but watch out for the strip clubs

I went last year and it was hell

Try a city that’s got a lot of great bars. Somewhere that’s rarely cold.

Lisbon is excellent for that as is Barcelona. I’ll be able to report back on Valencia in a few weeks.

Lisbon is potentially on the shortlist, good to hear a recommendation as a stag location, thanks.

Did a stag in Barcelona for one of my best mates (not one coming on this stag), had a blast tbf. Feel like everyone has likely been once or twice though so probably won’t go there.

Anyone think Madrid would be good? Never been there but heard good things generally.

Any Italian cities that might work?

Have you done Krakow, or any of the other Polish cities?

The last one I did was in Edinburgh which was great. The train journey home was dire though, wish I’d flew back :joy:

I’ve only been to Florence in Italy. That’s more of a relaxed couples holiday destination. Absolutely loved it though.

Germany is a great place to go for a drinking holiday. Koln (Cologne), Berlin and Munich were all excellent. Loads of beer gardens open during the summer and early autumn months.

Lisbon, hands down.

Food and drink are relatively cheap, the weather is consistent, the people are lovely and speak good English and the food and drink is also brilliant.

Stay somewhere near Bairro Alto, and try and catch a Benfica game if you can.

Can’t recommend Lisbon enough!

I specifically asked my groomsmen to do Lisbon for mine, I just love that city.

I like Madrid as well - it’s a nice city, could be a good choice.

Italian cities - I’m not sure Italian cities really lend themselves well to stags. You’d probably be better off looking for a villa in the countryside and focus on that - can be surprisingly affordable as well, Italy is actually pretty cheap.

What @Cristo said. It’s a cracking city, so much so that we stayed an extra night.

Food from around the world that’s cheap, loads of great bars, really chatty locals who make you feel like you’ve known them for years. Wonderful city, wonderful country.

Take trainers or shoes with good grip though, the pavements are mostly slippery marble in town and uneven tiles on the outskirts and it’s quite hilly away from the City Centre. They love a tripping hazard there.

For a ā€˜ā€™nice’’ stag do with some party option:

  • Pretty much anywhere in Croatia or Montenegro
  • Valencia
  • Lisbon - see above, one of the best cities in Europe
  • Naples/sorrento - def not the borat thong type place
  • Albania - tirana for a couple days drinking and shkoder for a bit hiking and scenery.

For an absolute piss up with inflatable sheep and shaven eyebrows:

  • Berlin
  • Bucharest
  • Prague - best party city in the world imo

You really sold me on this but apparently one of the other guys coming did his stag there, with my best mate/the stag being one of the attendees along with several others, so it seems it’s been ruled out.

Which Im now annoyed about, cos you really did sell it so well lol
