What was the last film you watched?

Solo was average tbh they would have been better off making a unique story using the cast tbh. Just feel there’s a massive disconnect between Han from the originals and what Ehrenreich offered up. It doesn’t feel authentic at all

A better origin story could have been written. Disney keeps things very simple and generic to pander to as large as an audience possible.

Don’t get me started on the socially progressive droid L3-37, ramming down a overtly liberal agenda ffs. What a load of BS ffs

Totally agree with the Rocky films. I do like Rocky 5. It has some tender, more human moments that Rocky 3 and Rocky 4 lack. The Creed films are OK, but Rocky Balboa (the film) is miles better. Creed wouldn’t be Creed without Rocky.

Agree with Prisoners. Easily the best film of the last few years. Jake Gyllenhaal blinks a lot, that’s the only shit stain on a beautiful tapestry of a film.

Brotherhood- now Kidulthood really disturbed me. The opening suicide sequence and the events leading up to it were harrowing and it was a wholly exaggerated commentary on the lives of inner city London schoolkids. Films are supppsed to either entertain or educate. This did neither.

Where did u read this tho :joy::joy:? L3 had honestly zero to do with politics. Droid rights is something that’s entirely contained within the Star Wars galaxy.

Disney’s blatant leftwing/progressive agenda has been on obvious display in all their starwars films. It’s so off putting, feels so forced lol

Equal rights movement for droids!? Where was this ever established by Lucas?

Well I’ve read it in an art book about the film, plus notes from the creators about why L3 exists as a character. However let’s just go through the lore of the films.

In the very first Star Wars film droids are treated very strangely. They are fitted with restraining bolts basically so they don’t have a mind of their own and are completely submissive to their owners. They are threatened with memory wipes when their actions aren’t completely in line with their protocols. Then later they are just outright told, ‘we don’t serve your kind here’ in the scene were R2 and 3p0 try to enter the cantina in Mos Eisley. So they are clearly treated differently by other beings even tho they are clearly sentient otherwise they wouldn’t need restraining bolts or memory wipes.

Now go back to the clone wars and it starts to make a lot more sense. The galaxy 20 years prior had been at war with an army of droids which is basically what the separatists were. So it is completely logical that many people who had lived through the clone wars wouldn’t be a huge fans of droids, and harbor some anger/resentment towards them.

Larry Kasdan (yes the same man who wrote ROTJ and ESB) who wrote the screenplay had been working on the script under Lucas since 2012, Lucas planned on making the film before selling to Disney. And then the original directors wanted to create a character as a riff off of that original scene with the droids in the cantina. I think it’s a big leap to connect the SJW thing to this film which is very much a good ol boys star wars film. Male lead, written by males, directed by males, it didn’t even pass the bechdel test.

Enjoyed them all although loved the Thrawn trilogy as a character. Also enjoyed the Bounty Hunters, Black Sun, Crimson Dawn could go on, also love the graphic novels, especially Maul et al !!

Nooice, fellow star wars nerd on OA??!! I’m reading through the Bounty Hunter trilogy as we speak, it’s a bit of a slog tbh some authors I’m just not huge into their writing style. However the Han Solo trilogy was amazing, and I finished the Lando trilogy a couple months back too, and I adored both. As a die hard fan like you Mo it was nice to see them honor those stories and characters in the film. We are just missing Prince Xizor now :joy::joy:

Now you talking Prince Xizor was a great character. The thing I liked about the expanded universe was that you saw the whole picture and how everyone fitted in. Id love for them to make a few Old Republic films as some of those characters would be amazing especially those from the graphic novels.

Brief Encounter (1945)

Based on a Noel Coward play… A married woman and & married Doctor begin a casual relationship that turns to romance in a brief amount of time, meeting on Thursdays they try to resist their feelings for one another despite not really wanting to.

Saw this on the iPlayer. A British classic. I love the way they speak, even though it’s a bit of a culture shock initially.

Shazam!

I’d give it a 7.5/10 was solid and brings back some much needed levity to the DCEU.

The majority of the jokes and gags landed and the cast was good also, looking forward to the sequel.

The Hurt Locker

It is a classic example of the famous Frankie Boyle line, particularly at the end of the film:

But I really enjoyed it, especially when you take that into account.

I like the visceral indie feel to the direction by Kathryn Bigelow and it’s very authentic in terms of location and the ins and outs of bomb disposal I’d imagine. (To a limit e.g. Renner’s character’s action probably aren’t what really happens, but the starting scene is more what I mean, and where the guys get killed from explosions not by the fireball, but the shockwave, which is a nice touch imo).

Jeremy Renner is great as the main character, his acting was my favourite. Now I get why he was in literally everything for a while after this came out.

Also Anthony Mackie was good, and this springboards them into their Avenger roles :ramsey:

All 3 main characters had a nice arc to their story and good development.

So 8/10
