What was the last film you watched?

Aye, I know what you meant. If you miss one, even one of the less ‘exciting’ ones, you’ll miss a chunk of the arc. I just couldn’t resist with that phrase.

They also panned it because it mirrored the first Star Wars film, took on a needless politically correct stance, re-introduced old characters only to under-utilize them, made some hologram Lord of the Rings like giant the baddie, turned a fledgling Jedi into a Jedi master in the space of 2 hours where it took Skywalker 3 films, and what about the flipping nose on the new Darth Vader!

Apart from that you quite liked it though?

I seem to be one of the only people that liked Solo haha

I think it gets way too hard of a time to be honest, thought it was overall a cracking watch

Thought it was perfectly ok too. IMO if you analyse anything too much it inevitably appears a bit shit, especially if you focus on the bad and ignore the good/ acceptable parts.

I had a pretty basic dinner last night- bit of chicken, some oven chips, salad and coleslaw. If I wrote a foodie style critique on it I could rip it to pieces- no inventiveness or style, no locally sourced ingredients, presentation was lacking…I could go on. It’s a wonder how I actually quite enjoyed it at the time. But I did.

Lol I’m not a big fan of the new trilogy either, but I was talking about the latest film that came out in May last year, the one about young Han Solo.

This is a hill I will die on. I stan Solo so hard. It’s like a mixture of Indiana Jones and Star Wars and it’s the only film since 1983 that feels like old school star wars. Solo 4 lyf :grin:🖒🖒

It actually ties in so much more that only true die hards will realise, introducing and linking to the many books about the expanded universe. For me it was an excellent film that so much more can be built upon. As a stand-alone film its on a par with Rogue One (although pretty much everyone dies in that) ?! The recent trilogy though is an abomination - utter waste of a story, hence Star Wars stand-alone films got such a hard time.

Mo ur speaking my language my dood 🖒🖒😁 Another reason I really love Solo is because it honors the old expanded universe novels really well. They changed some stuff but for the most part they’ve taken those stories and put them on the big screen. I’ve been reading the legends books since the 90s because that’s all we had in the dark times from 83 - 99.

Yes I can’t say I disagree with the standalone films.

Timing, however, is everything. Had Solo or even Rogue One been made in the mid to late 90s, it would have had Jurassic Park like appeal.

  1. Empire Strikes Back
  2. Return of the Jedi
  3. Attack of the Clones (just for Count Dooku v Yoda)
  4. New Hope
  5. Phantom Menace
  6. Rogue One
  7. Solo (not seen it, but it’s already miles better than the ones below it)
  8. Revenge of the Sith (far too rushed. And how can Anakin suddenly be more or less the same age as Natalie Portman all of a sudden?!)
  9. The newer one of the new trilogy
  10. The Farce Awakens

I’ve got major issues with the prequels, and I’ll tell ya why. In the original trilogy we hear all about Anakin being a good man and friend from Obi-Wan. Luke continually talks about how there was good in him and he could sense it. You are cheering for Vader to be redeemed in Return of the Jedi.

In the prequels however, George Lucas managed to make Anakin Skywalker the most annoying piece of crap in the galaxy, he isn’t a likeable character whatsoever. He was retconned to the point that you can’t willingly cheer for a guy who murdered a bunch of innocent little children, can you? Even when he was the good guy his lines and acting were for the most part terribly cringeworthy, just not a well written character imho.

So for my head cannons sake, I prefer to try and ignore that the prequels exist because on a certain level, they definitely spoil the redemption of Vader, which is a paramount moment in the OT.

They also managed to cast the most restrained Samuel L Jackson in history, who didn’t throw in a “goddamn”, “muthaf***er” or that abhorrent n word once in 3 films.

That made them even more absurd.

Lolol Mace Windu was one of the best parts of the prequels imo! I don’t hate the prequels completely because as you’ve already mentioned there were a bunch of cool moments. Yoda fighting was epic, Obi Wan vs Jengo Fett, Everything with Darth Maul.

I’ve watched a lot of films lately, all that I recorded from my sky box over the last few months

Rocky 1 - 5, loved them all but 5 was just the worst out of all of them, a bad “rocky” film but not a bad film if that makes sense, I have Creed ready to watch on my sky box but I had to buy Rocky Balboa on dvd for a couple of pounds because they didn’t show it on tv, so I need to watch that as well.

Prisoners, really really loved this film because it had me hooked from start to finish, I don’t find many films that do that

Hunt for the wilderpeople, loved this as well because it’s pretty funny and also kind of heartwarming

Area 51, it was average and they could have made it a lot better tbh

Brotherhood, it was decent but from what I can remember, Kidulthood and Adulthood were both better

Horrible Bosses 2, it had funny moments but I much preferred the first one

and then I watched a few films that I’ve seen a few times as well
