What was the last film you watched?

I don’t, that covers just one of my many good points.

Out of interest, have you seen Man of Steel? IMO a very good film with some good action. Best thing about Batman vs Superman is the score by Hans Zimmer. I felt the same as you that this was just one big set up for Justice League.

The original cut of Justice League is really really poor and not worth watching. The Snyder Cut is a lot better, but it is a slog at 4 hours.

It’s the only point that matters.

Though in all seriousness I actually agreed with a lot of what you said and was a little surprised to get to the bottom to find out you were a little bored with it.

I will say one thing what you said is how the majority of fans felt about it at release but I absolutely loved it. I think you yourself might have enjoyed it even more had you saw it back then. I just got finished with the Arkham games and there was something about Batflecks narrative I absolutely adored. Just the way he carried himself it was such a refreshing change to Bales portrayal. Much like the games it just felt like they were at least trying to lean into the comic books at times, it was imperfect fun.

I think I’ve watched it twice since then, haven’t got round to the Snyder Cut either but I will say on repeat viewing all the stuff you loved feels accentuated and the stuff you disliked just blends into the background. Apart from Jesse E. Kids a miscast and is complete screen poison period.

Also the nightmare sequence is pretty much just DS combined with the evil Superman arcs- weirdly the animated films do a brilliant job of explaining and adapting these so just something to look out for- also the Flashpoint Paradox another element Snyder wished to explore but the animated movies have already tried which is kind of cool.

I haven’t seen Man of Steel, simply cos I’ve never been that interested in Superman. Given that I’m not fussed about the character, do you think its a good enough film to override that? I do generally like superhero films a lot, so it’s not like its Batman or nothing for me.

I might watch the Snyder Cut, just so I can get more of Batffleck in my life, but I think if I do it will have to be in two sittings. Apart from maybe the director’s cuts of Apocalypse Now and Once Upon a Time in America I havent watched any four hour (or near four hour) films before. They were both slogs despite being legitimately great, so not sure it’d be fun spending that long on something substantially worse.

I’m not a massive fan of Superman. Always preferred other comic book characters so my expectations were low going to watch Man of Steel when it came out, but really enjoyed it. In fact the only Superman film you need really. Banging score again from Hans Zimmer. The action is a little OTT in places but all entertaining and the cast is good. I would defo recommend.

When I watched the Synder Cut I ended up doing other things while it was on. So if you are looking for something in the background that you can dip in and out of, probably worth a watch.

I do like Michael Shannon a lot since Boardwalk Empire, and he’s good in everything else I’ve seen him in, so that’s a draw. Maybe I will give it a whirl. I think your suggestion for Snyder Cut sounds good, could do a bit of life admin and job searching while its on.

@Castiel we had a lengthy back and forth about Batman ages ago, and it was clear we had a fair few dofferences of opinion (among also agreeing on a fair few things), that seems reinforced by us having totally opposite views on how much we liked each of BvS and The Batman lol

Bought that on blu ray recently but haven’t yet done a second viewing, will probs do that later this week.

Michael Shannon is really good in it. Like Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams is excellent as well. Be interested to know what you think if you watch it.

Sounds interesting…I’m recruiting atm, looking for a change of career?

In respect of Batman, I haven’t seen ‘The Batman’ yet. Loved the Christopher Nolan trilogy and the two with Michael Keaton. The Batman looked good from the trailer so likely to have a punt and buy it and watch it.

Don’t bother, it’s shit.

Worth watching. The entire thing. Makes the original cut seem a bit confusing lol.

Love the ending (as aforementioned) and the end credits to the Snyder Cut are great and moving.

Oh snap son. Genuinely thought I was entirely alone on that deadly hill.

It was honestly fucking trash, I hated Joker too, comic book films mixed through an art house lens without really achieving at either aspect.

It isn’t shit, though obviously everyone has their own opinion and I can’t say someone is wrong if they think that it is.

Put it this way, I’d be surprised if you report back saying you thought it was.

Spot on with both. If Joker was a standalone film, nothing to do with DC, I might have liked it as a character study of someone with mental health problems.

As it happens, they created this thing with Gary Glitter music in it. Total shit.

Only surpassed in shitness by The Batman. Adam West is turning in his grave.

That Gary Glitter track absolutely fucking slapped.

They were playing it in an old van Damme film I was watching today, too.

Sudden Death. (A good watch)

Do either of you watch the Harley Quinn show, it’s literally the stupidest thing in the entire DC universe but it’s also hilarious and frighteningly loyal to the lesser known source material from the comics.

Also you have Poison Ivy leaning into the fact she’s essentially an eco warrior rather than a criminal as it’s 2022 which is fun for the memes.

Thought it was cancelled after season 2 but the 3rd should be out soon, it’s proper turn your brain off, have a beer and enjoy type stuff.

I’ll give it a go, chap. I have a free Disney Plus subscription for the next 4 months or so. Trying to work out what to watch on that platform lol

Given our respective posts on DC properties, I’ll inevitably think it’s shit, so I’ll probably pass.

I dunno we both like Keaton’s, the Nolan trilogy and Arkham games and there seemed to be a ton of stuff you enjoyed about Batfleck and BvS in general.

It’s really just The Batman which was honestly pretentious garbage that felt like it was made for the mainstream audience. And the entire world loved it anyway- a masterpiece they said. You can forgive one or two DC fans considering it forgettable and a little dull.

I did like Pattinson as the Bat though, I though he did a good job with a minutes script and production

I had a Disney account for a while and it was honestly just Marvel overload for me, couldn’t even get through the stuff I wanted to. I’m not a Star Wars fan and I’ve had my fill of Marvel so the subscription just kind of fizzled out for me.

I did watch Nightmare Alley on it though which I thought was a genuine work of art, although I’m an insane fan of Guillermo del Toro, - and it might not be the type of story for everyone. Was about the only take away for having that account tho.

I absolutely loved Joker! Not a fan of Gary Glitter or his music, but that track is banging over the stairs sequence…I loved the tie in at the end of the film as well. The tone of the film was perfect for the time as well.
