Lean’s Bridge on the River Kwai is essential Brit Sunday afternoon telly viewing.
Apocalypse Now (1979)
A drunkard US Navy Captain during the Vietnam war is sent down river into neighbouring Cambodia to “terminate with extreme prejudice” the command of a rogue, mentally ill US Colonel.
I’d never seen it before, it’s a beautifully shot movie and the action scenes are great. Especially loved the helicopter raid and airstrikes with “Ride of the Valkyries” blasting out the speaker system. Superb.
I watched the 3 hour cut that has apparently big scenes (like the French plantation scene) that are missing from previous cuts.
Yeah in many ways along with the Deer Hunter the ultimate Vietnam movies.
Did you not think the French plantation scenes were kinda shit? Elongated what was already a weird film
I watched this years ago and personally found it to be quite boring and very weird. Clearly a lot of time was put into the film and the acting was great, but it was so slow paced and strange I found it hard to concentrate. For me Full Metal Jacket is still the best Vietnam movie.
Also the one with Michael J fox ain’t bad either can’t remember the name.
Very good shout. The first half of Full Metal Jacket, damn.
The Deer Hunter, as @Stroller said, is probably up there as one of the best. I think it’s horrific, in the sense that every horror movie tries to be. It makes you want to look away from the screen. Truly harrowing.
Platoon, as a Vietnam film set entirely in Vietnam, is also exceptionally good.
Yep Platoon that’s the one, haven’t seen Deer Hunter (or might of with out actually knowing what it’s called).
Will agree the first half of FMJ is exceptional, the middle and final acts are kind of weak in my opinion, ending isn’t very good, very anti climatic. Loved the drill sergeant was a personal highlight for me. Unfortunately will now never know if Eskimo pussy is actually any good!
An underrated, English war film to watch is Kajaki, if you’re into that genre.
Casualties of War
Blimey, not a lot of love for AN. Surprising, I really liked it.
Still can’t get over how stunning it all looked too. Beautiful.
Just watched Jesus Christ Superstar AGAIN…
The original with Ted Neeley and Yvonne Elliman, such a feckin awesome film / musical…
My favourite film of ALL time…FIFTY years old very nearly, and still bloody wonderful to watch…
Highly recommended…
Ted Neeley singing Gethsemane STILL brings me out in goosebumps, and I have seen that over 1000 times…
I really liked the part where the zombie snapped the woman’s neck right after that cringey romantic moment. She wasn’t unlikeable or anything, but that forced romance felt annoying and I found myself smiling when her neck was turned the other way and she looked at him (the big guy, forgot his name). The zombie did well there.
Hahahaha what a post
The conjuring the devil made me do it 6/10
enjoyable but not scary/tense compared the previouse films
The Master (2012)
A Navy man comes home a drunk after WWII and struggles to settle back into society. After stowing away on a small party boat leads to a chance meeting with a man who will change his life, he joins the man’s cult known as The Cause.
Inspired by the real life Scientologist leader and founder L. Ron Hubbard. T’was ok.
Harsh but fair.
You sick bastard lmao
Genuinely, probably the best and most random thing I’ve read on here all year.
I refuse to watch it because they didn’t call it Conspirasea.
This is the top tier shitposting the forum has desperately missed the last month or so.
