Video technology (VAR) in football

I truly believe in United bias

For good reason, especially at OT.

Goal line tech isn’t VAR. it’s an automated system.

You could get rid of VAR, but still keep the goal line system.

There are plenty of other videos where Man U and other clubs got dubious decisions.

It might not be fool proof but VAR is a lot better than referees who are influenced by the antics of players, managers and the crowd.

To me, VAR has essentially exposed the refs.
Removing imit will let them off the hook.

I don’t care about delays for confirming goals, if anything crowds get to celebrate the goal twice.

The big thing is that refs now have the ability to review footage, so when they make mistakes with video footage too, it exposes how incompetent they are at their job.

Sure human errors will always happen but there’s levels to human errors.

Forgetting draw lines, forgetting to check for offside, forgetting what the on field decision was, suspiciously picking and choosing what deems a “clear and obvious” error, choosing to ignore dangerous play that should be penalized.
It highlights the inconsistency and unreliability of the existing rules and in certain cases the inability from the these refs to adhere to them.

All of that and “I can’t do that to my mate”

Yep, this has always been my preference. Removes the constant safety net from referees who are scared to make a call. It gives teams the opportunity to challenge certain calls but they have to be careful not to get it wrong and waste their challenges.

Might as well split the game into quarters and make it last 3 hours too

As long as proactive VAR checks are not removed.

I don’t think it’s that good of a system.

I’ve never liked the challenge idea. It works great in tennis because you’re not dealing with a subjective call. The ball was either in or out. So challenging a pen not given, review, still not given and you now lose a challenge. It creates more problems than it solves id say.

It should only be used if refs/VAR overlooked something.
or to plug the “can’t review second yellow” bullshit.

Goal-line tech is different to and much better than VAR. No problems with that, likewise balls out of play on all four sides would be useful. It’s just VAR that’s a bad use of technology because it’s used by idiots.

Maybe not for some situations but some tackles would be ideal for a review like this as long as it’s coupled with the official explaining why it is or isn’t a card. That’s the key for me, greater communication. If it exposes some of these guys (and they’re all guys) as feckless buffoons, so be it.

There’s no chance this backfires.

What is the supposed difference between a clear and obvious error and clearly wrong :man_shrugging:

Take that united offside goal from a while back. Was that clear and obvious or clearly wrong? Just show the man on the field the replay and let him make a decision.

The PGMOL and the PL as well as the broadcasters will want to keep the setup the same, so a minor change to the language is hardly a surprise as a proposed resolution. Hopefully the clubs can get more out of them.

Absolutely pathetic how complicated they make it.

If you’re gonna use it then you simply need the VAR to review:

  • All goals - every single one of them and it should be checked within 15-20 secs for anything worth diving into. If not then allow the fucking thing to stand.
  • All pens - same story as above.
  • Potential red card fouls - either missed by the ref or where a yellow was given but may not be correct.

VAR should never make the final call on any of the above, if they find something they refer the ref to the screen and he has final say. There should also not be an automatic ‘check screen = change decision’ culture.

Offsides and ball out of play should be automated all over the pitch.

If any of the above can’t be achieved then fuck it all off and let the bellends keep making their mistakes, at least then we wouldn’t have the delays.

If we just change the words, hopefully people wont notice

VAR helps the refs on something that they could not see on the field, but the fucking rules of application and fucking idiots that runs VAR are the major problems.
