Video technology (VAR) in football

I mean to say the public address aspect would would go wrong e.g the crowd wouldn’t hear it, or TV. I know I’m being picky. I’m just not convinced of any benefit to the game. It would only be to spectators. It won’t stop controversy.

To support my view, just this weekend from the 5 games I watched; there was an offside which should have ruled out a goal and a penalty which really should have been given. Hearing them talk about it and still getting it wrong isn’t helping anyone

Yeah but them knowing that they are being listened by millions of people might make them think and act better.

Why is VAR still so faulty?
Why can’t teams appeal?
Why can’t match defining decision reviewed even if it is a yellow?

Why is VAR structured so poorly?

They should be able to review bullshit 2nd yellow card offences.

Red card?

Feels harsh. Looks like a regular challenge to me. A yellow would have been sufficient punishment

Got no problem with that being a red but not going to see consistency on it

I still think there’s a tremendous amount of inaccuracy when it comes to the technology.

Consider the speed of the game, use of cameras that run at 50 FPS. Quite often the still image used doesn’t capture the precise point of contact with the ball. The lines are at least 6” wide. And yesterday, for example, the line indicating Trossard being offside, wasn’t even drawn from the correct position of his foot.

Exactly right. Offsides has a false look of scientific precision but when close it’s probably often just dependent on which frame is arbitrarily selected as the kick point.

VAR shouldn’t do offsides. (and the “interfering with play” garbage should be removed entirely from the sport).

What do you mean…like if you are standing in the keepers line of sight it wouldn’t matter? Or literally offside is offside in all scenarios.

One thing i would do, and i definitely dont just think this since yesterday, is id remove offside altogether once the ball is played from within the 18 yard box.

yeah, if you are in front of them it’s just offside, get rid of someone deciding whether it is interfering with play or not.

I like this.

Only problem I envisage is they’ll forever be going to VAR to see if it happened in or outside the 18 yard box. :man_shrugging:t3:

I reckon hawkeye could give a pretty instant answer to that one tbh.

Look at all those worms squirming out the can

on the same token, we should sue PIGMOL fucking up the Newcastle game…

errors, errors and errors.

We’d have had an extremely strong case with the Brentford game last year. Liverpool-Tottenham is another that would be quite strong

The Newcastle-Arsenal one is more a subjective error rather than outright incompetence

at least we can screw their egos even if we could not win the case.

don’t try to mess us up, they gotta pay the price.

They will just look bad when all evidence is on the table.
