A sequel to the Goonies has been announced with the original cast! I’m so down for this!

Suspect its gonna be more hocus pocus 2 than Top Gun Maverick.

Not seen Top Gun Maverick, but was never really a fan of the original. I do love a good 80s film though!

I fucking hope not, sequels made years after the original especially as something as iconic as the Goonies can get in the bin, fucking about with my childhood memories the cunts.

It is possible to make a good sequel but I accept they are few and far between!

Be like Tarantino and refuse to watch sequels.

I wasn’t a fan of Top Gun, either. Top Gun Maverick is a fantastic film, though (@Maverick79 will testify)

Oof, it bombed so bad. One of the worst comic book movies ever according to critics.

Part of me is glad because Joker was a good standalone movie. It didn’t need a sequel or a prequel. Just leave it be. But of course they saw a cash grab for a sequel and went for it.

Some critics liked it…I’m looking forward to watching it.

Joker 2 successfully executes what Lana Wachowski attempted to do in Matrix Resurrections with meta self referential commentary.

If you find yourself not enjoying as much of the first then you’re part of the problem.

You sure?

Let me know if you like it though.

So my general rule of thumb when it comes to films, is don’t listen to popular opinion. Loads of people going into this would have expected to watch a typical comic book film, and (like the first one), it is clearly not a film for them. I thought the first was masterful and from the trailer, this looks every bit as good.

And Kermode was positive about it, and he remains my fave critic as tend to agree with his take…

They weren’t just positive about it, they reckon it’s better than the first.

But it will be judged negatively because it’s not like the first.

Pardon my ignorance, but what(or who) is Kermode?

Mark Kermode is a famous film critic in the UK. I’ve been watching his stuff for about thirty years now.

I will usually watch a film, and then listen to his review afterwards to see if we saw it the same way. We wont always see eye to eye on a film, but most of the time he echoes how I feel about a film.

So the fact that he liked this film makes me quite excited to see it for myself.

@Jules I knew you had good taste! I’m a big fan of Kermode and a big film fan too. Also agree with you that the film was always going to be viewed negatively because it isn’t the same as the first.

I also love a Kermode rant…ever heard the Sex and the City 2 one?

@The_Invincibles I’ve heard many a rant from him :slight_smile:

You should check out his review of Megalopolis lol

“The worst film I have ever seen”, “The cinematic equivalent of toothache”. Just a couple of his lines

Skip to 3:20 to see Kermode go on his biggest rant since Sex and the City 2.
