UEFA Europa League

I don’t see what there is to enjoy?

Watching us get spanked home and away by Real Madrid, Shaktar and Dortmund and failing to get through the group stage is not what I consider to be a good time.

Been humiliated enough in the EL as it is. Don’t want us in the CL again until we actually look convincing as a team.

Yeah felt like that for years. 10 goal hidings and 7 attempts of not getting past the group stage leave you scarred.

I get where you’re coming from in terms of bring fed up of watching us get humped in the CL, but the reality is that getting back into it is something that will help us improve and get to the point at which we actually look convincing as a team, because it means more money and pulling power in the transfer market.

Does the Thomas Partey transfer not dispute that argument?

Or Gabriel and Saliba?

All in-demand, quality players who could have gone to CL clubs if they wanted to

Tbh I think the maulings and failings we took in it had the opposite effect on us in the end of Wenger era.
By never competing or preparing for it exposed us and left us looking weak.

No, obviously not lol. We got him despite being where we are, we won’t always be that lucky. Being in the CL instead of the EL is obviously better for attracting players, its not even really an argument, is it?

@Cristo stop being a dick

I think it does, clearly we can still attract top quality talent with money + brand.

Losing 10-2 every round of 32 years in a row probably does more damage to our reputation than being in the EL.

7 attempts not getting past the first knockout round you mean ?

Yeah sorry. Never competing.

I honestly don’t think we can continue on the path we are and sustainably continue to pull off these sort of transfers. It’ll catch up on us the longer we are out of it.

Like it caught up with Liverpool and United? 🤷

It’s a moot point anyway, we’re miles away from getting back into the CL

OK Cristo, the club having a lot more money and being in the most prestigious competition in club football is not helpful to attracting good players. Players will be just as happy playing Hungarian farmers on Thursday nights in front of television audiences smaller than Loose Women because that’s amazing for their commercial appeal and reputation.

There thinking twice even if you win the Europa but finish outside your own top 6 though.

Agree with Jesus cristo. Would rather be midtable for life and participate in the occasional Europa league to play Dynamo fuckmeintheass.

We really need the CL place to kick off and move upwards if we are to mate. Tbf if I was Kroenke and I’d pumped all this money in the squad to see the return I’ve gotten thus far, I’d be very weary about investing even more given what we’ve yielded!

I don’t see how we keep pulling out £50mill+ signings each year if the performances and achievements continue as they are.

TBH players mainly give a fuck about wages. Players definitely would prefer big wages and mid table and Europa with Arsenal than championships and the CL with Celtic.

Rather than being so snarky how about you back up your point with some evidence?

I’ve referenced Man Utd and Liverpool being out of the CL and still managing to sign players, I’ve referenced Partey, Gabriel and Saliba who all signed for us despite not being in the CL.

Sure the CL is a draw, but money is the biggest draw. Even when we were in the CL we still had to buy other clubs cast offs who were unwanted by all of the big clubs (Sanchez, Auba, Ozil) so I really don’t see how not being in the CL has affected us that badly.

Sure our bottom line has been hurt but that doesn’t seem to matter when the Kroenkes don’t mind stumping up the big dollar for players.

The main thing about being out of it is we lose a shedload of income. United, Liverpool and Arsenal have all landed top players while being out of it. If you’re out of it too long you also risk becoming an Everton type club. Once great club now consistantly mid table with not much ambitions to be more than that.
