UEFA Europa League

Thursday is a shit day for football. Main reason to get back into the CL for me.

Yeah that’s a good point to be fair

As if anyone wants a snarky less Jakey

One of these names does not belong next to the others. I don’t know why you are using two young centre backs from the French league as evidence of our continued pulling power, of course we can still attract players of that calibre. Being able to sign them isn’t something impressive, of course we can do that.

Though if you’re so enamoured with someone like Gabriel you’ll be mightily disappointed in two years if we’re still in the Europa and he fucks off to a club that plays in a competition people actually watch.

We can still sign someone like Auba or Partey in specific circumstances, ie when there aren’t other big, rich clubs trying to sign them. If a similarly rich Champions League club from England went for them they’d likely have gone there instead of getting the same money at Arsenal but being consigned to the Europa League. Being back in the Champioms League enables us to compete with other rich clubs for top players, being in the Europa League means we need other teams to not be interested so we have a clear run.

If you don’t think the CL is a pull factor for players alongside things like money, I really don’t know what to say to you, honestly. Yes, we can sign good players without it, but being in it clearly only improves the chances of us being able to do so, in terms of making us attractive but also in terms of increasing our financial muscle.

Also, almost no other clubs have had their income decimated by the pandemic as badly as us, we are incredibly reliant on matchday income, so I think it would be mad to turn down hugely increased tv money from being in the CL and all the commercial opportunities that brings that the club would benefit from, simply because you’re afraid a good team might convincingly beat us.

Its essentially my entire personality, strip that away and there’s very little left

Thus is true, Partey left a top 8 club in Europe currently for us who finished 8th in the EPL whilst he was in his prime. Money talks bullshit walks.

Maybe the bigger point is you have too compete when you get in the CL.
Limping out year in year out meant we lost our top players.
Top players won’t stick around for Europa fact. They won’t stay if your getting stuffed in the CL or not making a fist of the competition either.

Bellerin has stuck around

I like that you have admitted defeat and begun to clearly make fun of how shit Bellend is :arteta:

Are you enjoying the Throwback of the day in the Bellerin thread? make sure to check it out.

You think about Bellerin more than I do. That is enough for me

Finally confirmed the second leg venue. They better be ditching the crappy away goals rule.

So in a season we might not play Olympiacos we’ll still play at their stadium, fair that it’s our home leg we’ve played at the venue enough.

Most of the fancied teams seem to be off to good starts unfortunately.
