A completely nonsensical way to get knocked out, and yet…
One team having to travel and the other getting to stay at home is a hugely unfair advantage. I actually think it’s pretty insane that United get to play at home. Shows how little integrity is left when it comes to European football. The big teams bring the big bucks and gain all the little luxuries afforded to them.
It would be a huge advantage if you had fans, I haven’t checked all the stats in games this year but I think away teams would be winning a higher % of games than I’ve ever seen this campaign.
This particular decision is not coming from within football though. Portugal is on the list of 33 countries that people are banned from traveling to the UK and Spain isn’t. This decision is made within the parameters the UK government has set.
Let’s be real though, single tied affairs at neutral grounds could easily be set within the competition in compliance with countries Covid precautions but ££££.
To not have single tied legs is definitely money driven, no argument there. But this current solution is simply solving the problem at hand and not creating more issues. If you’d make this single tied what do you do with the other ties if clubs start to complain?
This shouldn’t be singled tied fixture if the others are two legged affairs -my entire argument is based around keeping the rules unilateral among all teams. If one team can’t play at home because of Covid then you arrange it in a way that every game is played at a neutral venue.
If you absolutely have to play this shit competition this year, which is a farce in itself, I feel like we should try and make things as fair as possible and try and pretend this isn’t about anything other than money and TV viewing numbers.
Ah fair.
Imagine CL finals before EURO 2021. A true footballing festival.
…
Lol this is just ridiculous. It’s a circus.
Just have a one legged affair all round.
I’d rather the 2 legs because I don’t want the only thing left in our season decided over 90 minutes, prefer to have 180 minutes.
Yeah I’d rather 2 legs too.
But if teams are struggling to find venues for their games, then there is a problem. So just do it all in one go.
Like you have the issue of Man United playing at home, but their opponents playing their home game away. And then us and our opponents both having to play away. How is that ok? All teams should be playing under the same rules.
With stadiums behind closed doors everywhere I just don’t see it as much of an issue.
If teams had home games with stadiums jam packed and other being forced to play at neutral venues then I see it as a massive problem.
All in all none of it is ideal, but as long as the tournaments carry on and we get a result I don’t complain even if it is somewhat compromised.
It’s laughable that anybody thinks any of these tournaments have got any credibility or integrity left.
UEFA desperate for the money. Fans squirming for the fix.
Ultimately it’ll go down in the record books and at the end of the day that’s all that really matters.
Champions league place at stake for the winner of this tournament also.
Yep. I’m clinging on to this.
Getting into the champions league would not be enjoyable for me haha
Money wise yeah. Credibility wise most covid ball competitions domestically or internationally are all a bit secondary.
I’d enjoy more for the fact it would mean we’ve won a European trophy.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
