No that’s not correct, the country isnt made up of voters that comprise exactly 50% from each party. His approval rating within the GOP is at a record 94%, a record high for either party…ever. So as I was saying the GOP are energized for this election. And to your point the other polling number that is a big red flag is that only 33% of Dems are excited for the election. Once again I suggest reading this article to get a better grasp of what’s going on
Yeah, I feel at this point the DNC and many Dems must see Bernie as more extreme and outlandish than Trump.
Trumps policies are actually a lot more in line with traditional US leadership than most people realise, it’s just his type of diplomacy, social media usage and use of language that’s novel.
Bernie was my choice in 2016. Going the whole Scandinavian socialist model is pretty crazy and from what I’ve read the taxes are fucking high, but when I read that some of the happiest ppl in the world are living under that system, I can stomach sacrificing some of my personal wealth for the sake of the happiness of the country. However you and @Jules are 1,000% correct, fucking corrupt politicians make me sick, this is why I would rather have had Trump than Hillary. I’ve no doubt in my head that Bernie in their minds is much more of a threat than Trump to their bottom line and and status quo.
I’ve long thought that if he was just more disciplined and kept the Twitter tantrums down to a minimum, it’d be much easier for people to see that he hasn’t been the disaster they claim he is at all.
He’s going to have to make a lot of severe mistakes in the next few months not to get re-elected now and I think he probably will be when you see how weak the Democratic field is.
Most people in Denmark pay around 45% tax anyway, it’s only really corporate execs that end up paying the 55-57% that most people get so scared of. Then you also have to remember that salaries are really high as well.
And think about what you get for it?
Free healthcare, free universities, students get paid to study, subsidised child care, 1 year paid maternity/paternity leave at 75% of your salary, 37 hour work week, 5-6 weeks holiday a year etc.
We have the lowest levels of income inequality and highest levels of social mobility as well as highest levels of gender equality.
I am, however, afraid to say that I don’t see that system ever working in America though. The population is too large and not homogenous enough, and America was founded on frontier philosophy of “every man for himself” where in Denmark it was founded more on a philosophy of “all for one and one for all”.
Would absolutely love to see Bernie in power and try to make it happen. At least just try and get the billionaires to pay some of the taxes they should be paying.
Yup that’s what I’ve read. And I’m okay with all of that but yeah for Bernie to inact all of that change would be very hard to do in our good old boy culture. 45% tax is insane tho selfishly speaking that scares me because I make a lot more than the average american salary, but like I said if it made the country a better place to live for my children in the future I cant complain much.
The way I look at it is, think about how much you have to spend on healthcare for your family and college for your kids. Costs that would be eradicated overnight.
But yeah I get it. We have exec friends in Denmark that make $500k a year and pay 57% tax. They still lead a very nice life with lots of holidays, beautiful house, lots of luxury goods and handbags. It’s not like you lose all of your upper class privileges haha
i don’t think it’s a block 45% tax, is it @cristo? at least it isn’t here, it’s like the top earners only get taxed 40% on the amount more than whatever they earn to qualify.
In any case, Tom Perez firing off on twitter about a recount now, as final results come out that Bernie may have won. The DNC have been in charge for the past 2 days
What a fucking clown.
I really do agree with you guys, that it seems like the DNC would 100% prefer Trump to Sanders. Look at Germany.
Are you really comparing aproval rating, which takes zero effort to voter turn out at a primary now? Because according to this Dems highest ever voter turn out average was 19.5% for Obama in 2008. So 33% turn out isn’t low, 2016 was the highest turn out since 1988 and turn out seemingly matched that.
You article is an opinion piece that I disagree with.
Healthcare isnt really an issue for me, so jumping my taxes by about 20 percent when I have a job that gives me top notch healthcare for very little, is not my biggest worry. Having to swallow a giant tax increase to pay for other ppls healthcare is not palatable to me and many others. But like I said prior, I’m okay with that because circumstances change and the costs of healthcare in this country are shocking and a complete scam. Clearly the machinations of greedy politicians.
The college thing is a problem yeah, but student loans are low interest and a lot of ppl have attended college and paid off their loans with no issue. I’ll take free education tho if it’s offered. Of course I’m a privileged person in this society so I’m coming from a complete different background and mentality.
Maybe you misunderstood or I didnt phrase it right, but the 33% thing is 33% less ppl turned out to vote in the Iowa Caucus in 2020 than did in 2008 when they were energized for Obama.
Is this because you prefer Trump’s variety of corruption to Hillary’s then? Not only brazenly breaking the Emoluments Clause but agreeing to the genocide of the Kurds after being bribed by Erdogan.
That’s somewhat cherry picking. Firstly Obama didn’t get close to 33% on average and secondly he got the highest turn out of any Dem in history. We’ll have to wait and compare the turn out as a whole. But that in itself doesn’t necessarily reflect turn out for the actual election. Less people vote in primaries than in the general
Also it’s assumed Trump did a great job of getting his base out last time. This isn’t actually true if you look at this link below. It was the lowest Republican voter turn out since 1996. It just shows how weak of a candidate Hillary was.
I’ll start off by saying that my knowledge of how the Iowa caucus works comes primarily from an episode of The Good Wife but doesn’t it involve essentially counting people?
Apparently 4chan posted the numbers of the polling stations and proceeded to block their phone lines with constant calls
There’s also the conspiracy theory that the DNC don’t want Bernie to get the momentum that winning the first primary gives, so hence they withhold that. So it looks like bernie has won by 6000 votes, which I think is less than a percent. But for the past couple of days the results that were in showed the more establishment candidate, Buttigieg, in the lead.
Biden’s lawyers wrote a letter requesting the votes were re-counted before any announcement, mainly because he did so badly and wanted to withhold that information for as long as possible.
