U.S. Politics

I feel bad for Elizabeth Warren’s campaign I really liked her. But what do you expect?

You hire a bunch of clowns, that first helped Hillary Clinton lose what was meant to be the easiest open goal election in 2016. These same people then failed upwards into working for Kamala Harris and then bringing her campaign down in flames, and then they fail upwards again to do the same to Warren now in real-time.

Cringe worthy watching this. And now because of this bullshit we have to put up with people like Pete Buttigeig :face_vomiting:

Fuck Warren, she’s seemed like a total bullshit artist from the get go. Obviously we’re all capable of change, but she was literally once a Republican, as if she could possibly keep pace with a totally consistent don like Bernie.

I liked some of her messaging but her low blowing of Bernie was shady AF

Yeah I don’t like her. Just another Hilary 2.0 who would spend most of her time pandering to the Billionaires and establishment.

I really hope we see Trump vs Bernie but I’m worried that the media and DNC will be able to scupper Bernie

It’s actually disturbing how shamelessly she lies through her teeth. She’s easily the most dishonest and false candidate running in terms of character and policy.

The whole “sexist” attack on Bernie ahead of the CNN debate was farcical.

She’s actually running on small form donations and not backed by corporations and has been to the left of the party for quite a long time.

Crazy stuff, and real meaty read of some good old fashioned quality journalism.

Edit: if you’ve got the subscription lol

The twitter thread has some excerpts.

There are a lot of reasons to not like Warren but idk that I’d mistake her policy-wise for another HRC. She’s talked the talk on some fairly left leaning proposals. I believe at one point she advocated breaking up Facebook.

Plenty of other reasons to have issues with her as a candidate imo.

Honestly if I was American, and the general election was Trump Vs Bloomberg, I’d 100% vote Trump, no hesitation for a variety of reasons.

There is no conceivable reason for anyone to vote for Trump. He is a monster of the highest order and his election almost made me reconsider having a baby because I didn’t want her born into such a failed society like the US. You can vote third party and essentially throw your vote away. Bloomberg is also a terrible choice but I’m really close to believing that Trump is approaching evil and I don’t typically believe that people are any one thing.

I’d vote for him just on his foreign policy dealings with China hava

You’d be complicit in the inhumane misstreatment of immigrants and their children, to be rolling back further of gun controls which will see more innocents die, the corruption of office that may ultimately lead to a dictator.

Bloomberg is right wing in politics and possibly a bit racist but he’s the lesser of 2 evils by a distance. He’d actually put gun controls in place because he isn’t batshit insane. He also has the money and power to not actually need to pander to any interest groups

This thread always has some hilarious takes :arteta:

Voting for neither is fine too, but in that case imo Trump would be the lesser evil and I’d make sure to vote for him, for the reasons I’ll outline below.

To me, Bloomberg is like Bush. He also seems to be a chauvinist dodgy racist/sexist/classist guy like trump.

But he doesn’t tweet about it or insult the dumb neoconservative pundits on NBC and CNN so he seems to get a pass.

  1. He’s also smarter and more competent than Trump - so the hell he can unleash is worse than Trump can do, thank god.

  2. Plus, with Trump it would only be 4 more years, whereas Bloomberg could have 8 more years in power.

  3. Also Trump could keep the Dem base energised to turn out against him, while if a guy like Bloomberg got in on the Democratic ticket, it would destroy that party for years, and a good chunk of their base will not vote for them again for a long time, if ever.

  4. And also Trump could campaign to the left of Bloomberg on many many issues.

  5. Tbf to trump, he won via democracy. first he won his party’s primary fair and square, then he won the general election. His party also accepted him as their nominee even though many there hated him. At least some consistency on the republicans side, they accepted their voters’ wishes when it didn’t go their way.

Meanwhile the democrats seem to shit on their voters every time they can. Now they may steal the nomination from Bernie and give it to Bloomberg, and at the very least are working to screw him at any opportunity.

6.The democrats are the biggest hypocrites ever - spent 4 years raging about how big a pig Trump is, then elect a guy like Bloomberg shows they care nothing about that. They just want someone that’s nice and keeps this system up, and they can be however racist or whatever as they want.

  1. Bloomberg just waving his cash around, buying his way to endorsements through donations, stopping criticism by buying off his critics and blanketing people with ads is grotesque and a bit scary. If he wins it shows that the US democracy is for sale.

Trump didn’t do anywhere this much, he got a lot of free publicity because cable news are morons but he didn’t buy his way to the presidency, he spent less than Hillary. Bloomberg is basically buying his way to the top.

I’m not a fan of Bloomberg, I want Bernie or Warren to win out. The choice between Trump and Bloomberg would be a choice between children of immigrants being locked in cages and regular American children being shot in schools or not having that. That should be quite an easy one choice to make.

The only problem is Obama implemented these kids being locked in cages which has now stopped under Trump :+1:t5:

Last night’s debate was a hot mess. Everyone got hits particularly Bloomberg.

Thought Joe came off the best, followed by Warren.

Good entertainment though, I usually criticise debates as a suitable platform to discus ideas but Bloomberg was throughly outed as a candidate

Always disturbing when politicians use children for their electioneering.

I’ve lost alot of respect for the US political process as I’ve gained a better understanding of the system. It seems a very broken/ineffective system to me

This is why democrats aren’t credible
