There was even a computer game, with a sequel.

Politicians are such hypocrites

:face_vomiting:

The audacity of these clowns. Telling us to vote and then shitting the bed on so many things.

If only there was a viable alternative to voting Democrat.

Asking Americans to revolt is like asking cattle to escape an industrial slaughterhouse. We’re drugged up, physically restrained and prodded forward toward our imminent demise.

Maybe if the capitalist machinery around us collapsed we’d have a shot.

We can swap flags and include your post on this side of the pond.

I know it’s probably really funny for non-USA citizens to point and laugh at the country and all the idiots who live here but the amount of times I hear people say “Oh just leave” or “Oh just move” or “Get out there and change it” makes me roll my eyes.

It’s so difficult to move to another country from the USA. Does that inspire even additional laughter or schadenfreude from folks given this country’s history of terribly racist and restrictive immigration practices? Probably. But it’s still very very difficult. (Side note: There was this reddit post about a young woman who left the USA for a Scandinavian country and she was encouraging people to make a similar move. She was quite young, maybe in her early twenties and eventually someone asked her how she was able to afford all of this without having saved and she was basically like, well my parents paid for it and I’m engaged to a local guy so I’ll be able to stay. And there are tons of random tik tok accounts of USA-ers living in Europe talking about how it’s so wonderful and how awesome it is without ever really mentioning that the only reason they’re able to move there so easily is because they have a spouse who has citizenship or a parent who has citizenship that they were able to claim.)

But on the whole, folks in the USA are just tired of experiencing life in the USA. I feel tired of experiencing life in the USA and you can’t get more privileged than a white guy attorney from the suburbs from a two parent family who has experienced basically zero friction in society.

Your sense of alienation is still valid. The vast majority of Americans live a life that revolves around buying shit and working your ass off to buy more shit. Peoples identity revolves around the shit they own hence the insane ammosexual culture or goofballs with manicured beards that post online about cross-fit.

Having lived abroad at various times in my life I can say there’s a distinct lack of peace of mind over hear that’s got everyone on edge. It’s kind of a powder keg in some respects.

There is a decent amount of crossover between the ammo culture, manicured beards and crossfit.

The frequency of “thin blue line” USA flags at crossfit gyms is mind boggling.

Allot of people are starved for human connection. Many find it in really shallow activities (football :pires2:).

I think the more alienated we become the more those who are predisposed to anti-social attitudes are attracted to things like militias and other fashy type groups (like the police).

Especially men who may rightly feel disempowered by modern day life and see dominance over others as the measure of their self worth.

I never thought you’d say some so sensible that I would agree with :joy:

Antifa literally isn’t fascist. I’m not even saying antifa is good, or that you can’t criticise it, but what it literally isn’t, is fascist.

I thought it was meant to be us leftists that described anything we don’t like as being fascist

What @mhappy probably means is that antifa has similarities to fascists, which it does. Just like fascists, they aren’t able to have dissent amongst their ranks and thought and they like elements of totalitarianism. Intimidation and violence.

One of my mates used to be in Antifa actually in the early 2000s. It was nothing but a way to express their frustration, anger and be against the establishment. Squatting houses in Amsterdam, fighting with the police (when they want to remove the squatters).

They are actually quite alike to their extreme right wing peers such as the Proud Boys. Just adhering to a different tribe and taking that tribe’s “values” as gospel.

Now he grew up and has got a family and his own apartment. :man_shrugging:t4:

People often think that authoritarianism and fascism are synonymous terms.

True but you can’t have fascism with authoritarianism it is easy for some to confuse. The only thing missing to make them out and out fascist is nationalism but they portray all other tenants
