Trump

It’s just such communist behaviour.

Lots of tiny mushroom dick energy from El Pres today.

I mean, it is a pretty funny coincidence that Trump’s birthday is the same as the as US Army’s birthday.

Any other President with even a modicum of self-awareness and self-respect would have said, let’s maybe not do this on my birthday because it could be seen as being a birthday parade akin to what third world dictators do, when one of the biggest things my opponents beat me over the head with are my fascist-looking tendencies - let’s find another day that would still be appropriate.

I didn’t actually know its was his Bday, that is a funny coincidence.

I think he’s damned either way regardless of his actions the toxic US political space when it comes to stuff like this.

Finding another day would surely prompt criticism he’s sidelining the Army to prioritise his own birthday? Wouldn’t that draw more “outrage”?

I didn’t watch it so I don’t know if he compelled the army to be overly obsequious towards him during the parade but then again he literally is the commander in chief. Think the N.Korea/dictator stuff is wide off the mark, close to TDS

July 4th is a couple of weeks away. Could have just done it then. Made the military component of the parade bigger for the anniversary.

I don’t think you can divorce it from him utilising the troops in LA.

If it weren’t for that, it would be reasonable enough to chalk it up to people being OTT and it being a coincidence that the anniversary and his birthday are on the same day and it not being about celebrating him.

Yeah this would have been a perfect opportunity to do it.

Great way not to make it about him and to actually drum up some patriotic sentiment.

Meh. Trump getting criticism either way.

Not that I’m sympathetic, he invites most of it.

I think that Trump supporters are so indoctrinated and brainwashed that they would never criticise him for anything, let alone this especially if he gave his reasoning as it not being appropriate to hold it on his birthday.

I agree but those die hards aren’t the only ones in his base. There are also right leaning Americans and Americans who were just fed up of the status quo who support him who would find a big gaudy, egocentric display quite off putting.

Never underestimate the power of a depressing status quo to encourage people to hold their nose and vote for a candidate they don’t like or believe in simply as a fuck you to the system and its worker bees.

Also a perverse desire to live within an authoritarian society, as long as it is someone else who is being persecuted.

Yep, see Brexit for further details.

Anyway, I’ve not seen the news today but I assume Trump’s been in the press saying what a beautiful parade he had and the crowds were the biggest ever seen.

10,000 in DC v approximately 1,000,000 who attended over 2,000 No Kings protests in 50 states. Gives some hope for the future, if there is a future.

I really did fall for “Trump not a war guy” narrative.

“No new wars” was such an intentional dumb view of US military intervention in his first term. “peace through strengh” is equally nonsensical

Interesting to see the spit with MAGA between the “Israel first”/Aipac lobby and isolationists.

I never believed that. Not because whether he truly was or not. Because it didn’t matter. U.S Foreign policy far extends beyond who is the president.

The presidency in many ways, like PM, is a ceremonial role as the system is so large that it basically runs itself and sure, every now and then, the elected talking heads change after elections but when they try to implement their stated policies the civil servants tell them to go sit in the corner and stick crayons up their nose.

Trump’s so stupid that he’d need a diagram to follow a complex instruction like that.

Boris Johnson would ask for the instruction in Latin.
Keir Starmer would say no… a lot before pressure causes him to flip flop and do it anyway.
Liz Truss would say I won’t quit trying before immediately quitting.
Tony Blair would fire the crayons at a country in the Middle East.

Netanyahu would take the crayons and say they always belonged to him.

Trump will be remembered as worse than Bush and the guy that killed the American empire if he does go through with inserting the us in another middle Eastern war for Israel.
