The State of The Arsenal

Any fucking chance one of our attackers starts delivering something nearing consistent quality and threat before the season runs out? If that’s too much to ask, how about some moments of individual brilliance?

You didn’t enjoy Saka’s twenty yard banger against Brighton?

Agree though, somebody in the forward line needs to step up.

Raya
White Saliba Gabriel Calafiori
Odegaard Zubi Rice
Saka Havertz Martinelli

I really want to see this team in action. Hopefully we get a chance to see it in some big games.

EDIT: Basically our 2024 team but with Calafiori and Zubi instead of Kiwior and Partey.

Every game in all competitions from hereon is essentially knockout football, we won’t be playing our next league game for nearly a month. Hopefully we start playing football we are capable of and are mentally and physically ready!

Didn’t even think about it being such a gap between today’s game and our next. By the next time we play in the league, we should be through to the last 8 of the Champions League, at least 7 points ahead and Carabao Champions. HUGE next ten days.

Hopefully so…

Troy Deeney of all people has dropped a pretty good comparison.

Says Arsenal play like Floyd Mayweather boxed, everyone’s desperate for the knockout blow but it’s generally a well fought points decision victory. Definitely feels accurate for this season.

Dowman was the change we needed to win the game against Everton. I think this firmly places the conundrum of playing him more in Arteta’s thinking from now until the end of the season.

Hopefully this allows for a re-jig in our CM set up, absolutely no need for a double 6 pivot when our backline is so strong. It allows us to rotate Declan/Zubimendi more than to rotate in Havertz/Downman/Eze/Ødegaard.

We lead the league in goals scored yet have nobody on more than 11 g+a and no player in the top 12 of the league.

Truly a team effort to put the ball in the net this year. Obviously this year is going great overall but it makes me believe that this team can go up a level in the years to come. Add a couple really top level attacking influences into that mix - maybe Saka coming back to his best form, maybe Dowman becoming what he can be sooner rather than later, maybe a transfer like Khvara - and we could be fucking lethal. The present could be amazing but the future is also really bright.

Which reminds me - excellent prep work by Arteta & crew to prepare for any injury crisis in midfield.
If something happens to Zubimendi, there are now enough games between Eze & Saka for them to fill in the midfield spot.

We just need to pray Rice remains fit

Although it was another game with no set piece goals, we did over celebrate the goal from Dowman so I’m surprised the pundits didn’t mention that.

I never watch punditry, I literally tune in for kick off, mute at half time, turn the sound on for the second half and I only really watch post match stuff if we’ve had a big win. So it’s always odd to me to see Jamie Carragher being presented as some kind of respectable authority as opposed to an odious runt who spits at children.

I usually have our cat Ziggy sitting here watching me watching football. He’s quite talkative when I press mute at half-time and usually provides a better summary on events than Neville, Carragher or Sutton.

Especially Sutton.

I am exactly the same Leper, literally just watch the match and then look at post match reaction on youtube later. I find punditry so painful these days, I just cant be assed with it.

It’s funny how when we use to play beautiful football, the narrative was, Arsenal are too soft, they lack leadership and experience etc.

Now that we are defensively well structured, have leadership, experience in the side and as per others play “ugly football.” The narrative is still against us.

There also used to be pundits that would criticise us for “not liking being roughed up” and would congratulate managers like Pulis and Allardyce when they kicked us all over the pitch.

But when we’re sitting top of the PL, pundits drone on about us using set pieces to score and over celebrating.

“Punditry” before start of this season, this is laughable, they don’t have a clue…

I am so glad they underestimate us.

Exactly. I wanna learn my future from those who predicted the downfall of a PL champions who added a top class talent in Wirtz and worldclass striker in Isak to their squad?

I don’t think it was wrong of anyone to predict Liverpool as favourites
