The State of The Arsenal

Those statements were one of the most irritating things you see thoughout the whole season.

Absolute nonsense.

most likely… unless we are going to sell Jesus and one key starter, and need time for the newcomers to adapt.
Otherwise, our starting 11 should be all set (already).

Dunno about the ‘only’ part but it’ll be hard for anything to be a better chance than last season tbh. We had 1 real rival and a 5 point lead in Feb.

which means, we were not ready.

You’re making it sound as if we were competing against Leicester/Tottenham.

They had problems in the first half of the season, but that team in the second part of the season, that also won the CL so comfortably (edgy final without KDB but still) is one of the best football teams I saw in the last 10 years.

We would have lost it anyway, but should have at least kept it tight until the end.

Btw we were playing (getting results to be more precise) a bit over our actual ability in the first half of the season, now it’s pretty easy to admit that. We were on course of 100+ points, no way that team was that good and no way that was sustainable. I couldn’t even understand our point tally at the time (kinda similar to Liverpool this year  ).

It’a a whole different story now though.

No i’m simply saying we were 5 points ahead in gameweek 29. It’s hard to see a better chance even if we stay competitive over the next 3-4 years.

Mikel has done great to bring us right back this season but there’s zero chance we’ll have a 5 point lead in 2 games time this season. What we will have is another year’s experience though, hopefully that counts for more

As for this bit:

Agree it wasn’t sustainable, because of our squad depth. I think the points total perfectly reflected the quality of our starting XI tbh. I actually think we’ve had the best starting XI both last season and this. Depth and City’s world class stars (KDB and Haaland) have made the difference.

The one 1 real rival just happened to be the best side in the world by some distance unfortunately.

We also had next to no depth and a very inexperienced or be it talented young team.

We’ll win a title in the next 3 seasons.

Yep and now they’re still there plus the asthma cunts.

Maybe I’m being very literal about ‘better’ chance but can only see us having a clearer path than that when Pep is gone. Otherwise it’ll be more of the same like this season, blow for blow all the way to week 38 lol

I don’t believe Liverpool will be as good as us for the next 3-4 years, they’re more reliant on stars that are 30 + than we are, Salah, Virgil and Alisson etc.

Yes pep is an issue, I just have a gut feel he’ll go end of next season. Even if he doesn’t though, I believe we’re seriously closing the gap and eventually we’ll beat em to a title.

Pep leaving or not, is not going to affect our chance IMO.

KDB is a generational talent, you don’t see Haaland often… even Pep stays, highly doubt they will get the same kind of replacement. Same to Liverpool’s Salah and Virgil Van Dick.

The context to “five point lead after gameweek 29” is pretty important though.

-City playing like one of the best sides in PL history.
-Away trips to the Etihad, Anfield, and St. James among our last nine fixtures.
-Needing to start Rob Holding - barely a PL-level player - for nearly that entire run in.

In the end, all City needed was to beat us at the Etihad and then for us to slip in one other match. I have little doubt that if City had needed to win their final two matches they would have done so. We needed to be pretty close to perfect.

I agree with both of those points, I’m more talking about right now this season with Liverpool.

After Klopp is gone, I can see us battling it out with city til pep leaves and then could have a clear run for a couple of years assuming Arteta is still here too.

Would be a little wary of spurs getting involved if they stick with Ange and actually have some sort of stable build over the next 12-18 months.

I’m not doubting we should be able to compete over the next 5 years, but I’ll be surprised if we find ourselves 5 points clear with 9 to play again.

I have a feeling it will “click” for United sooner rather than later

Ratcliffe is going after the right execs

they probably need another 500m to replace their aging players…
then get a relevant coach, and have some luck of not having injury crisis.

wait till that actually happen; otherwise, no need to worry about them.

Good thing Is, if we do find ourselves 5 clear with 9 to play we won’t be relying on Rob Holding this time.

I had some on here tell me he ain’t that bad and would be good for a mid to lower tier epl team.

How many mins he played at palace ? Lol

not a fan of Rob, but this is just ridiculous to put all the blame on him.

Most of our key players had a dip of form or lost their confidence in that run.

Our defense was bad with Holding, no doubt about this; but our offense did not do us a favor also.

It was more than just him absolutely, we ran outta steam, no experience etc…

But even if everyone else held form, the downgrade from Saliba to Holding and the form of city might still have been too much.

You’re going from a dominate high line ball playing CB one of the top few in the world, to someone who really isn’t a starter for any top 15 PL side.

The fucking no shows against Brighton and Forest. Almost criminal. Took our strikers about 85 mins to decide to play against bottom club Southampton.

I’d like to think that level of unprofessionalism has been channelled out of the team.

that’s why I felt bad for Rob.

One is bad but tried his best.
Other is good but did not try hard enough.
For me the good one should take more blame, just for me.

I think the league was pretty much over by the time the Brighton and Forest games rolled around, but it was still annoying to see.

I just highly doubt city take 1/6 from Brighton and Brentford if they needed results, they basically had thoughts on the two cup finals by that stage as the league was won.
