The State of The Arsenal

No surprises there. Everyone leaves here on a free or we terminate their contract.

Harrods when we buy, Poundland when we sell

Wenger wasted money in almost every window, signing average players, paying them world class wages, so when Arteta had to replace them, we could hardly give them away.
So although we’ve spent a lot, at least we’re title challengers rather than struggling to win the top four trophy, like we’d got used to with Wenger.

But Chelsea have spent more than a billion in the last couple of seasons, which has seen them go from CL winners and title contenders, to propping up the mid table.

It seems strange Man U weren’t above us on that list, surely they’ve wasted more money than us.

I think it was mostly our contract management causing the loss in value, we often had no bargaining power with player or buying club cos we left deals so late.

More rare occasion we did spunk the wages and then get stuck (ozil, Auba).

More like Poundtown. We’re always getting fucked on fees.

Hang on, everyone was telling me we don’t create chances from open play.

Just need that elite level striker to convert them into goals.

The mightest of fictional god wouldn’t know how they define a chance.

No, it was we don’t score enough from open play, which I think is fair. Also, when we say “enough” it doesn’t mean compared to other teams, but compared to the chances we create.

Well we definitely don’t score enough from open play and what qualifies as a “chance”? Either way, we weren’t passing the eye test for a lot of December.

3 and 4 goals off Liverpool and City without a top prolific goalscoring striker!

Spoke too soon

Just quietly, 3rd highest goals for in the league and the best defensive record in the league.

With no striker.

“Arsenal need striker” has not aged well, in last 4 games 16 goals…

Considering we put out an understrength first team, with a very weak bench, we thrashed West Ham after beating the second title favourites in the previous game.

It looks like we’ve hit a bit of form at the right time and have players coming back from injury.
The difference is we have a stronger squad this season and have actually beaten Man City and Liverpool, so we’re well in the title race.

First time this season where we’ve won more than 3 games in a row. Hopefully this breeds confidence and the boys keep winning.

Burnley
Brentford
Wolves
Luton

I stand corrected! Maybe we can make it 5 wins in a row in the next game.

My theory after Liverpool game last month was correct, we’ve gone to another level offensively since the Lens game.

At the minute, we’re actually better going forward than last season imo.

Against high lines or deep blocks, man to man or zonal marking, we’ll find a way to cause havoc in the opponent’s penalty box and generate chances.
