The State of The Arsenal

Wasn’t the reason the move to Palace broke down last time his wages?

Wasn’t that when his contract was expiring and was looking to sign for some German side for much better terms instead?

Back then he was out of favour here too. He was 3rd choice behind Laca and Auba, and he wasn’t getting time when those 2 were unavailable. Not to mention that we weren’t particularly good at that time which probably made him look worse for it.

Since then he’s played significantly more and has been an important player for us the past 2 years. Even earned called up by Southgate over the likes of Solanke, Wilson and Watkins.

I think whoever signs him from us there will be an expectation of him being a big player for them.

We shouldn’t have been taking that turd on those sorta wages either :santi:

Why so much disrespect for Nketiah :disappointed:

Not a world beater but he fucking contributed goals last season when we relied on him when Jesus was injured.

It’s not like he is a total waste man.

I agree.
He cost nothing and although he’s on big wages, we’ll easily make a profit on him.
There aren’t many other clubs with a second choice striker as good as Nketiah and t’s not as if any of our other attacking players are scoring more.

If we do sell him, there won’t be many decent strikers wanting to sit on the bench like he has.
But if we buy a world class striker and use Jesus in a different attacking position or on the bench, that is going to be an expensive signing.

I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but If you want to win the league, or the CL, then Eddie just isn’t good enough.

But then again I don’t think we have any strikers at the club who are good enough to take us to the next level.

If we want to win the league and/or CL, Toney and Solenko should not be considered at all.

Our money only on either Osimhen or Lautaro.

It’s not disrespect. He’s an academy product who made it through to the first team, played a ton of minutes, scored goals, scored important goals and even represented the club in Europe while also getting a call up for his country. From an academy perspective, he’s an unqualified success.

But he’s been here for a long time and is very clearly not the answer as our starting striker or even as a change-up option off the bench. I don’t think it’s disrespectful to say he’s not good enough to take the team to the next level. He’ll go somewhere else in the PL, play every week and score goals. That’s better than what, 99% of everyone who sets out to be a footballer.

He’s on a lot of money here compared to what he’s given us and I think it was a lazy move to re-sign him and Nelson to contracts that aren’t going to be easy to move considering teams like Palace, Bournemouth, Everton, Burnley aren’t giving these guys 100k/wk.

Just looked and we’ve got 11 games in all comps til we go to City and, while I don’t think we’ll pull off 11 on the spin, there’s nothing there that really worries me bar the Liverpool game but even that is at home.

Palace - H
Forest - A
Liverpool - H
West Ham - A
Burnley - A
Porto - A
Newcastle - H
Sheff Utd - A
Brentford - H
Porto - H
Chelsea - H

I know it’s always a bit futile and rarely works out as it looks on paper but if we pull our shit together and get into any sort of form that’s not a bad run of fixtures. I think the worst bit is the away triple header from West Ham to Porto.

Should really be looking to put ourselves right back in it by the time we go to the Etihad.

After the camp, we can make it

I think it stems from the frustration most of us have with the amount of games he has started for us. And yes, he got vital goals for us last season so he’s not a complete waste. But he’s lucky to be the second choice striker for a club like Arsenal. We used to have the likes of Kanu, Wiltord who played second fiddle and were much better than Eddie.

Well he is a bench striker. Not doing a bad job imo.

We used to have first team strikers like Chamakh and Bendtner…

Could we improve upon Nketiah? For sure. My gripe is more with the manner in which Nketiah is made look like a complete bin man in the comments

Bendtners best goal season tally of 9 league goals in 08/09 is looking good vs Nketiah’s 5…so uhm…

Bendtner was a good player, he was just nowhere near as good as he thought he was :grinning:

This is exactly what I’ve been seeing. 16 minute read, so better done in 2 or 3 sittings, but this twat has absolutely nailed it

  • ignoring CBs in buildup and developing an overreliance on 105 million signing Declan Rice and not as much on Zinchenko (or Jorginho), leading to issues when it came to breaking lines.

YES YES YES. Oh my god. You are not seeing the best of Saliba is all I’ll say here.

I think I’m going to struggle to get past comparing Havertz with Odegaard

Harsh. I understood this as a comparison of their status in the game, rather than similarity as players

  • a once young phenom a little lost/down on his luck but with huge upside still and at worst could play like 5 different roles — Havertz in that way is much like Odegaard who has been a revelation

Looks like we’re 3rd in this list of teams that have lost the most money on transfers over the last decade, hardly surprising…

Not particularly surprising given all our best players in the Wenger period left on a free.

Indeed.
