Top of the league and not even playing particularly well. Not been scintillating football by any stretch, but we have been fairly solid at the back and have come through games against City, United, Chelsea and Spurs unbeaten, finally getting that City hoodoo off our backs. I understand people not enjoying this as much compared to our start last season, but for my money there has been far too much complaining, all things considered.
Just wait til we hit form, rest of the league’s fucked at that point.
Us grinding out results even when we aren’t playing well goes to show how Arteta has made us more solid as a unit. We’ll sooner come into form hopefully and start thrashing teams, but getting results while still not playing well will be so vital if we wanna aim to win the league, especially during the later half of the season.
and even those 10 goals… at least half of those we gifted to the opposition (nearly did again with Ramsdale today), not to mention the VAR bonanza. It seems like we’re harder to break down this season.
I’ve said it before but there is some sort of Mandela effect about our football last season.
Sure, we played some “champagne football” at one point but that was really at the start of the season. By October we were very much squeezing past teams and the only real pummeling came against Forest at home.
In the EL we had one good performance against Bodo at home and in the rest of the games we played like shit too.
Do I think our football right now is great? Fuck no. However, which team out there is playing great football? City aren’t, Liverpool aren’t, Spurs aren’t, Brighton aren’t, Newcastle aren’t. You could argue Villa have played some good stuff at times but that’s mostly at home.
There’s a wide drop off in performances across every team not only in the PL but the world really.
I’m torn between thinking that’s days aways from happening and thinking we’re not going to hit form in the same way. I don’t think we’re going back to that type of more open football.
I’ve complained about it a lot but I think I need to just accept that we’re going to be this more rigid team for the foreseeable future.
Thoroughly enjoyed the clips of Lee Gunner looking totally gutted that Havertz scored. Some will say it’s disgusting and that he’s not a real fan. While that may be true, I just enjoyed watching the narrative and earnings potential slip further from his grasp.
