The Russian Invasion of Ukraine

I wouldn’t be able to tell an Englishman apart from an Irishman at a glance, that wouldn’t remotely do anything to justify or explain an occupation of Ireland.

All sides are going to need something they can sell as victory for this war to end. Trump isn’t going to want to be seen to have rolled over for Putin. Despite what Zelensky says publicly, I think he probably does have a settlement in his mind that he thinks is acceptable. Putin needs to be able to say he’s secured Russia’s border.

I really don’t think a negotiated peace is the worst thing that could happen to the world. Previous American presidents have screwed over Eastern European worse than Trump. See the Hungarian Uprising and the Prague Spring for example.

Tell that to the English throughout most of English history.

Yeah, that’s kind of why I chose that specific analogy haha

Or you could explain why it is relevant to say that an Englishman couldn’t tell a Western Russian or Eastern Ukrainian apart.

Trump has the polar opposite to my belief system, my politics and my morals. But out of the two presidential candidates, I weirdly believe that Trump’s ambition to end wars comes from a genuine preference for peace and a desire to boast about negotiating peaceful outcomes.

Do I need stronger medication?

Whatever you and @Leper are smoking I don’t want any of it.

I’ll wager there’ll be a quick negotiated resolution that disadvantages Ukraine.

Zelenskyy will want to conclude things before Putin has a chance to get Trump in his pocket if he doesn’t already have him there.

I disagree, what I’m taking is sedating me very nicely.

And what difference is that to now?

If they don’t cede the land then Russia is on their door right now. The threat of mother Russia is always there peace agreement or not, at least they could stop their people dying and living under fire for some time.

Also it shouldn’t be all occupied territories if they concede now, only the Donbas which is what this was always really over anyway.

It’s time for England to return Northern Ireland to Ireland.

It is very easy for us to say, “yeah, take the land and we want peace”.
Very sad but that is the reality.

Let the Ukrainians decide their fate.
We should support them whatever decision they make.

Who else would decide it for them? I’m not following this suggestion that’s come up in the thread a couple of times now.

End of the day Ukraine will decide how it ends this war, all that is being talked about here is the likely scenarios/options.

Zelensky, the representative of their country.

Which is by proxy the people. They elected him and will oust him if he makes a shit deal.

Shit deal or not, till it is signed.

There are people wanting to fight and there are people wanting to stop. He could never satisfy the most anyway.

I believe so, as well.

Democrats & Republicans are knee-deep in the web of foreign relationships, and Trump is too lazy for all of that. He doesn’t care.

Get in there, negotiate and be done with it. And I love it.

Don’t have any Irish in me. My father’s part of the family are Poles from Western Ukraine though.

The latest in a number of stupid statements in this thread. Any justification for this opinion or just throwing out random comments now?
