I had a jacket made by that tailor. Very nice, but one sleeve was longer than the other two.

How does this work? Arenāt mountain heights stated as above sea level? So, with rising sea levels, Everest should be getting shorter, not taller.
To calculate the elevation of a mountain, scientists would measure the distance between two points on the ground and then measure the angles between the top of the mountain and each point. "If you have two angles, you know the third, because the sum of the angles is 180 [degrees]

So sea level is no longer in the equation, then?
Was it ever how do you measure a mountain from sea level?
I donāt know, but thatās how it was. Mountain or not, I thought and land point is shown as above sea level. Check contour maps.
Since the ground can have different elevation, the reference point is usually the sea level.
Me being from the country having 8 of the 10 tallest mountains in the world including Mount Everest, can confirm mountains are measured from the sea level.
Sorry to hear about that @Phoebica. Was wondering why you werenāt as frequent on OA as before, at least not posting as frequently. Hope Arsenalās strong start to the season has brought you some job and taken your mind off things.
The river thing is new and basically is eroding the surface around Everest, making the surrounding area lighter (weight on the earthās crust), causing the crust under Everest to push up.
But what I remember reading a long time back is that the Indian subcontinent is continually being pushed into the larger Asian continent (Indian subcontinent merging into the Asian continent is how the Himalayas were formed), which is causing Everest to rise a few millimeters each year.
Dunno which of the above is true now.
That made no sense to me. Couldnāt visualize the triangle it is talking about.
