The Labour Party

Not what I’m saying at all. I think this is a very specific situation with a lot of context and a lot of baggage. That specific MP was the target of antisemitic abuse on prior occasions, it has to factor into whether or not this current no confidence vote is itself antisemitic.

I’m not saying the no confidence vote is or isn’t because I’m not a part of that constituency and I don’t really know how her own voters view her. My point is that it’s ridiculous to claim that the no confidence vote isn’t antisemitic because the people who tabled it are Jewish. There is a long and awful tradition of tokenism in these types of situations where people point to a Jewish person’s actions in a certain situation and say that because a Jewish person took that position, that position cannot be antisemitic. That’s bullshit imho.

And to your point about “crying to daddy over fake antisemitism” it’s attitudes like that which make it very very difficult for people to feel like they can speak up about it in the first place. I’m not saying this specific no confidence vote is antisemitic. But there is a very long tradition of Jewish people being painted as hysterical or whiny when we raise concerns over antisemitism because of our perceived financial success relative to other minority groups or in the later half of the 20th century because of an attempt to engender sympathy after WWII. I’m not trying to take a shot at you, I’m just saying that maybe in the future you can think about why you believe Jewish people would even want create, as you put it, “fake anti-semitism” when really I think most Jewish people would prefer a world without it at all.

So if you think the vote might be antisemtic why not investigate it to find out, or to begin with just ask the question in a non hostile way. To steamroll in with a ban of 1000 odd people, including many Jews, doesn’t look whiny, it looks politically motivated. It’s basically creating an environment where to criticise a Jewish person is a no go area. That’s a very dangerous path to go down, and will, actually, perpetuate hatred of Jews.

I think we need an immediate inquiry into racism in The Independent Group

Strange how nobody seemed to question it aside from Ash Sarkar.

I expect this to be the main headline news on the telly tonight, lets not pretend it wouldnt be if an MP loyal to Corbyn said anything remotely like this

It was never about race really. It was always about trying to get a new leader.

Sadly now we’re having this debate about race, rather than why we have an incompetent opposition.

We are only having this discussion because this gang of 7 are doing what they always do - making up shit. They will just wait until the next general and stand in marginals and hand victory to the Tories.

Brilliant!

Should label the boy and girl looking away as ‘right wing peiple’ and ‘left wing people’ for the ultimate form of the last meme.

Well that’s at least 7 MPs who won’t vote for another general election.

Can’t believe Umunna thought he could lead this party, and only 3 years later he thinks it’s changed so much that he wants to destroy it :joy:

It should be law that they trigger a by-election, because nobody voted for any of these fuckers on their Brexit views, they voted for the colour on their ribbons. But I guess if that were the case they’d have not left and been an continual annoyance so this might be the lesser of two evils.

Unless there are about 70-100 mps prepared to leave then it really is a silly gesture. Besides we all know they are leaving because of their views on the EU than anything else in the party

An interesting point tbh.

I can guarantee they would all lose to the labour candidate in any future election.

These safe labor seats absolutely did not vote for the charms of chuka or Luciana Berger, or Angela Smith.

They’d vote for a donkey with a red rosette, which these days seems to be about 80% of the party.

I’ve been thinking about they hope to achieve tbh. Seems like they want to trigger an internal change within the party to shift more moderate and pro EU so there’s a path for them to return later.
