The funny thing about Arteta saying he wants a side who press and attack quickly to sweep teams away, the opposite is true.

We were out pressed by a Championship side, then Chelsea who swept us aside.

I still say he’s seeing out most of this season. I don’t trust this club.

The “mini Wenger” line was meant as a slight towards Arteta, but the writer doesn’t understand that is exactly what the Kroenkes want—someone that they can essentially turn control of the club over to.

Wenger was perfect for Kroenke in this sense. New stadium, minimal investment and top 4/CL money like clockwork. Stan only reluctantly let Wenger go.

Problem is that they turned over the control to a novice that simply doesn’t have the experience nor ability to run things. A seasoned DOF would have been a check for Arteta and helped guide him in the transfer market. Instead, both guys (Edu/Arteta) are not of the needed quality for the job and increasingly likely that they will be gone.

Saying the right things while doing the wrong things was always going to have a limited time where it was accepted without being called out.

His genius has been entirely based on what he’s said. He sounds like someone who knows what he’s talking about and in isolation it probably still sounds like that, but we’re working with 18 months of data now and as time goes on it wears thin so I’m not surprised if his good PR goes south relatively quickly from now on.

Seeing the way Pep conducts himself these days I think it’s strikingly similar, like they’re higher beings with all the answers and there’s a continual disingenuous facade that makes me think this is a deliberate technique to seem powerful for some reason. It’s like fake-it-til-you-make-it, pretend you’re the best manager to ever coach a team and people will believe it until you really make it. At least Pep has a record to fall back on.

No slight on Wrighty intended whatsoever, but let’s reserve a slither of the no. 8 based respect and put it on Freddie’s name.

I don’t care what anyone says I loved Arteta as a player, when you have to sit through the likes of anchors like Denilson, Coq, Xhaka, Elneny, it really makes you appreciate Arteta as a DLP.

I wish Wenger had signed him sooner he was like the perfect holding player for Wenger and Rice back when we still had an ounce of interest in being competitive.

He was just the midpoint of our downward trajectory.

Well that’s the thing really, Arteta came to Arsenal too late, so I don’t hold that high a regard for him and his playing contributions, particularly because as he aged his lack of pace started to become a liability. At Everton, at his peak, in a more advanced CM position he was a good player, but even that is clouded because my memories are ruined by our failure to bring in Xabi Alonso when we had the chance.
