For one, Odegaard wasn’t part of the team because he wasn’t our player at the time and was signed in January. So that’s a wash. And even if you could use Partey’s injury record, he wasn’t that impressive in most of the games he played bar Man United away. Plus ya boy Arteta was adamant on playing Willian at the expense of our attack like he owned his nudes.
Plus he had ya boy Xhaka leading our MF. No excuses.
So why didn’t you include Odegaard with Ben White then if he wasn’t part of the team ?
Very selective behaviour to say the team that finished 8th bar Ben White ? Then when it gets pointed out you say you don’t count Odegaard as part of the team .
As for Partey yes he’s a top talent, we have to get him healthy and Arteta has to get more out of him.
That’s true but Brentford’s first team probably cost less than what we paid for White and they beat us comfortably.
We might see better performances when these players are back but spurs have beaten Man City and have won both their games, without their best player and they have a new manager, so Arteta really hasn’t got much of an excuse.
Are you serious? It should be a given that Odegaard wasn’t with us the first half of the season and shouldn’t be used as an excuse. But he was there for the second half of the season. C’mon bruh, you’re grasping at straws here.
Yep no doubt Brentford was a poor loss, also despite players missing the Chelsea performance was also poor.
I’m not saying we’re a lock to turn it around, I’m just saying the chances will greatly increase with players like White, Gabriel, Partey, Odegaard, Aubameyang and Saka up to full match fitness.
If Arteta can’t at least come top 6 this season at a minimum, I’ll want him marched out the doors also.
There is no way we’re finishing top six with Arteta but a bottom half finish is very possible, even with our best players fit.
But I do think, with a competent manager, we could challenge for a CL place.
It’s up to the board to show some ambition and replace Arteta but if there was a league table of PL club owners and their decision making performances, we’d be in the relegation places.
When he took over we had 20 games to play and were only around 6-8 points off 4th.
Not exactly like it was an insurmountable task he just clearly hasn’t been up to the job yet.
Think it’s clear as day that the team this season is suffering from the absence of Partey, Gabriel, Aubameyang and the fact we secured the signing of Odegaard late. But even then I don’t see that the team he fielded against Brentford should have been so heavily overplayed so it stands to reason that he’s probably just not really up to the job.
Safe to say the damage was done by then, not all Arteta’s fault. The interim period with Ljungberg (and the lack of staff) costed us so many points. Thanks for nothing Raul.
Yeah that interim Freddie period had some very winnable matches on paper also.
Think Arteta took over after 18 games and 23 points though sorry to be pedantic, he was appointed but Freddie was still in the dugout for the 18th game at Everton.
Clear as day he’s losing the dressing room now that’s why these pieces are coming out. Leaks from senior players you’d imagine and also younger players who are probably now feeling the wrath of fans.
Also lost a bit of his nuance with the press now. More populist and main stream asking questions.
5live before the Brentford game had already asked whether he had the most questions to answer this season.
Nerdy community who backed him are now less vocal in support.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Being a decent manager takes years of work for most, and in that sense, Arteta is nothing more than a bud in the tree of managers. He could very well turn out to be a decent manager in the future, but a club like Arsenal is not a place to learn your trade, and in your first managerial role no less. Appointing him was the biggest issue here and the higher ups at the club are the biggest culprits.
