Serge Gnabry

Ah made the age old mistake of trying to gauge feelings from written quotes.
Definitely sounds better when you hear the clip.

Catch yourself on he’s no where near ready for a club like Arsenal. It’s debatable that Iwobi is and Ox definitely isn’t.

Just because you like a player doesn’t mean we should throw away any ambitions for honours so that we can blood kids into elite pros.

Judging by what Wenger said, he is staying. I know Arséne is a famous bullshitter, but he really praised him here.

Hey, if we had a Mahrez or a Draxler I wouldn’t necessarily disagree. But we don’t. Hence the context of my post. Of our options that are likely to be fit (ie that excludes Wilshere), our best options are Iwobi and Gnabry, IMO, maybe Theo in their too.

Anyways, there’s no steadfast rule, your attitude is too rigid. Bayern didn’t suffer much pain ‘blooding’ Kingsley Coman (and Gnabry is just a fat Kingsley Coman  ), nor did Dortmund ‘blooding’ Weigl, nor us with Iwobi so far, nor loads of other examples I can cite. If the player is good enough he’s good enough.

Agree with the premise, but I worry that our record in doing this hasn’t actually been all that great (Ramsey, Theo, Ox, etc. - going backwards or sideways for years). The ideal situation would be to have proper winger across from Sanchez and then ONE of Iwobi or Gnabry - having two promising youngsters in a crucial spot seems like a terrible idea for both the reasons of consistency and getting playing time, especially if AW is going to persist with the calamities Ox and Theo.

I agree. Only thing I would say is Gnabry is a more talented player than Ramsey, Theo, or Ox ever were, IMO. But agree on the rest, hence why the situation is bothersome to me as I’ve said in the other posts above.

Gnabry aint ready for shit. He’s not played regular football for ages. Still a lot to prove. Scoring a couple of goals against Fiji does not mean he is ready.

Yeah, wouldn’t look too much into what is essentially a U-21 tournament.
Calum Chambers had a good summer where he won some U-21 tournament, and he is not ready at all.

No one is saying he doesn’t have a lot to prove or saying that he’s proven all that needs to be proven at the Olympics. The Olympics have just been a confirmation of the talent those of us who don’t have a short-term memory all saw a couple seasons ago, and before with the youths.

He was definitely ready couple of seasons ago. I was quite chuffed at his contribution then.
But Injuries & lack of football can really derail someone.

Have to see him do it in an Arsenal shirt.

To add on that Germany has a ridiculously strong team for such a competition, which makes playing well a little easier. Same goes essentially with Bayern and Dortmund who can carry their youngsters even if they don’t do that well.

Not sure if we can do the same if he ends up not doing quite as much as expected.

I like Serge and think that at least there are indications of our original hope for him again. given the debacle at West Brom (damn you Pulis!), it was worrying… and then the injuries and fitness concerns…

I remain optimistic but agree with those who are saying not to put too much stock into the youth tournaments, especially playing with teammates in Germany and playing against competition like Fiji FFS. Let’s give him time and hope he makes big strides this year.

You never know, we don’t play Tottenham til the 6th of November. Let’s see if they’re ready for him after his Motm vs them in 2014.

If you are just another player, that may be true.
If you are the star of the team, then you must be as good as other good players.

If Gnabry shines because he plays for a strong German team, by the same theory he will shine when play next to Ozil and Sanchez.

I honestly don’t see him here long term. He’s lost out a lot football wise last 2 years, is down the pecking order against others who aren’t exactly regarded as World Class. If we ever sorted our right wing situation (same way we ever buy a proper striker :arteta:) ) then Serge would never get a look in.

He’ll be sold off down the line along with all the other ‘prospects’ we’ve had over the years that never managed to forfill his potential here.

Except it is at Olympic level against poor competition. I agree with your larger point though - he has looked good and just because he is playing with good players it shouldn’t be counted against him necessarily - however, when you are the dominant team, players like Gnabry get way more opportunities to look good b/c they are constantly in possession and attacking.

Sure you got your point and I get it.
Dominating team has more chances to show off than an inferior team.

The quality of his goals and chances taken and movement are pretty solid, not like he got 3, 4 fucking tap-ins and then he is good.

Gnabry just tee’d up Julian Brandt nicely, who hit the bar, well unlucky almost 1-0 Germany vs Brazil.

He scored his pen in the shootout so immediately he’s doing better than the last 4 gunners that took a penalty.

Would be a good move for him much better than fucking WBA
