He can do that, im saying he shouldn’t because he has more options as a free agent if it doesn’t happen for him here this season.
Anyway I think both of our thoughts on the matter are clear enough at this stage

That’s usually my line…
It’s really a shit situation as I think about it.
Gnabry is ready, IMO. I’m not sure how much a loan in Germany is going to achieve for him. Worst case he goes there and has an uneven spell, doesn’t really fit in totally, best case he goes and stands out like he’s doing at the Olympics…even in the best case he comes back to the club basically in the same situation he’s coming back to now from the Olympics. If he wants to make it here he really is ready to do it now, and needs to do it now. Yet the opportunity for him in terms of getting the games a player his age needs is not there, for no good reason at all, really.
We’ve totally botched this guy’s development, honestly. I still cannot believe the idiocy that was the West Brom loan. And I still can’t believe he’s got dross like Oxlade Chamberlain standing in his way, when he’s clearly the more talented player.
He doesn’t even have 1000 minutes of professional first team level football in his career. How isn’t it going to change a thing?
Just my gut feeling, but maybe you’re right. I guess the problem I see is that Iwobi is only going to gain ground on him, really. Even if Gnabry far outperforms Iwobi wherever he goes, Iwobi will have been here, and continuing to solidify himself as Arsène’s boy. If Gnabry stays here, he can compete more directly with Iwobi and Ox, even if the minutes aren’t ideal. Like I said, in either situation, it’s not ideal at all, because of the way we’ve botched his development up to this point.
The loan was a bad idea but other than that I find it hard to criticise how we’ve used him tbh.
The loan, the injury (typical Arsenal injury that seems minor and turns into a player falling off the side of the earth for a full year), and why weren’t we more aggressive in finding him a new home when we recalled him from loan? Even if it was a 2nd division bundesliga side?
edit: @ronniec , yeah, that too, which I just mentioned and forget to mention in the response to Shamrock, the clogging of his position with players like Ox.
I’d say it is not about how we used him but how we handle this wide player position.
We can’t have that many players fighting for one spot (assume Sanchez taking the left automatically). There is no one really stands out from the group, so everybody getting some minutes here and there. The worst is, most from this group are young players (including Ox) that need game time and manager’s vote of confidence to grow. On some situations you put Ramsey and Jack in that mix. Nobody can really blossom in the end.
Even then having guaranteed playing time is better than having no playing time. We’ve also got a long list of new contract talks coming up so things may change, also in the position he’s fighting in and by the time he’s back the situation on the wing could be a little easier to break through. At least there’s hope that we’ll have a better understanding of who will make it and who won’t and that Wenger will consider to cash in on certain players if they don’t perform to the required level (yet again).
I know, wishful thinking, but with so many players fighting for the same spots he has to do it at some point.
This kid is a good talent so I’m very happy to hear we want to extend him.
Gnabry is probably ready to play regulary but not with us. A loan to Bundes will be vital for him.
He’s going to get Joel Campbelled.
Why? Iwobi had chance and he took it, so now it’s time for Gnabry to shine.
The way I see it, Campbell is a going to have another bit part season for us cause I don’t think Arsene considers him good enough to play every game. Theo & Ox are clearly the first two choices on the right wing with Sanchez & Iwobi being the choices on the left side. Given their injury record, you can expect Theo and/or Ox to pick up an injury sometime during the season which is when Gnabry can get his chance. I know it’s kinda lame to create a strategy based on the chance of a player or two picking up an injury but given the players we are talking about and their history of injuries, it’s not a case of if but when.
Whatever the case, I think we have to give this guy a chance to play this season, and by that I mean 6 - 10 games on the spin, even if it means giving Theo and Ox a break.
The last thing we want is for this to turn out to be another Pogba like situation.
#Serge Gnabry set to leave Arsenal on loan but Arsene Wenger wants him to sign new deal
Serge Gnabry is set to leave Arsenal on loan again before the transfer deadline, but manager Arsene Wenger wants him to sign a contract extension, Sky sources understand.
The 21-year-old winger signed a five-year deal in 2013. Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin are interested and are expected to find out imminently whether their loan request has been accepted.
Gnabry has been playing for Germany at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, having represented his country at every youth level from U16 to U21.
He spent a portion of last season on loan at West Brom but made just three appearances and was subsequently recalled by Wenger, who believes the youngster has a future at the Emirates.
Gnabry joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old from Stuttgart in 2011 and has made 18 appearances, including five starts in the Premier League.
He made his last appearance for the Gunners against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last-16 in 2014.
Going on loan again, probably to Hertha Berlin.
Just bring him back and play him on the wings with Alexis, Ox, Iwobi and Campbell. Because Lord knows we aren’t signing a new winger lol.
Full quote
“I want to keep Serge Gnabry and to extend his contract. We stood by him for a long time. You know, he went to West Brom and didn’t get a game. We built his confidence when he came back and I allowed him to go to the Olympic Games without having played for us at all, to get him back to competition and to help Germany. He’s been here for a long-time and it’s important he stays with us.”
Honestly think we’re gonna reap the rewards with the faith we’ve showed in Gnabry in the same way we did with Hector Bellerin.
Thought his deal was ending next summer from what ive read up to now.
Better put a fucking recall clause in that loan contract!!
Quote seems too desperate to me.
Maybe something is happening.
Doesn’t sound desprate to me, here’s the audio clip. I can honestly see him breaking into the first team this season.
