Serge Gnabry

In fairness wenger did give him a chance in the first team but as soon as he did he got injured, then injured again and again and when he wasnt Wenger sent him out on loan to get him some matches and Pulis the fucker that he is didnt give him any (not a great idea to give the likes of Pulis flair players) and that leads us pretty much down to today…his loan spell didnt work out and when we was looking good for us he got injured then had setbacks.

If we aren’t going to sign any other player in this window, which is increasingly looking like the case, then at the very least, I want to see this guy play for us this season. Could be the one exciting player that we want to see in our team. Let’s put the question of whether or not this guy is the real deal to rest. For once, he is not injured and is playing well so his confidence would be high. This has got to be the season where he breaks into our first team.

I concur.

Theo and Chamberlain’s form has been ropey, Iwobi is injured, Campbell is pretty unfavoured.

Gnabbers should get a chance on merit if not by default.

Well, I was actually making a case for loaning him out and giving him a full season of football somewhere else and not having him play (mostly at youth level) at Arsenal this season, but I guess one could have read it the other way round too

We know that if he doesn’t quite hit Arsenal form this season, he’ll be stuck doing nothing all year as Ox, Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, even Iwobi will be ahead of him.

We should keep him around and give him a chance. If he does not play enough we can still send him on loan come January. Who knows, maybe he will bring some fresh air to the team like Iwobi did last year? The RW spot is up for grabs and I do not see either Ramsey or Wilshere playing there as a long term solution. So it’s basically down to The Ox/Campbell/Gnabry/ Walcott to take it. Nice to have some competion and cover on the wings as well.

I think there’s too many players around with Oxlade Chamberlain. We should’ve sold him this summer (then we’d have even less reason to be haggling over transfer fees), and given Gnabry a chance, if we weren’t going to sign a RW (we weren’t).

But now with Iwobi, Ox, Wilshere, Ramsey, Theo, Campbell, there’s too many options for Gnabry to get consistent games, even if I think he’s probably the best of those options along with Iwobi or a fit Wilshere (this you obviously have to consider like a half player).

From Arsène’s words it sounds like he’ll keep him, though? Hard to figure out that man’s plans…

It’s keep as in not letting him go and sign a contract with another club. He’s out of contract soon and so he wants to tie him down to the club for another few years.

It doesn’t say anything about if he’ll be at the club this season or loaned out.

Unless he has a coquelin esque season he’d be a fool to sign with us again.

Exactly what I said in Draxler’s thread.

Even we are an injury prone team, there is no need to have that many wide players, and sometimes Wenger just loves to insert Jack and Rambo there occasionally.

Ox, Theo, Iwobi, Campbell, Gnabry, Wenger need to sell at least two to get some funds and also give the remaining players sufficient playing time.

Considering we have pretty good track record with youngsters (see Iwobi), Gnabry would probably consider staying for a bit.
After all it was his injury that kept him out of first team, rather than lack of chances.

Perfect scenario is that we keep him and sell two of Campbell, Ox, Theo and develop him properly.

I know wing positions can be rotated during the game but I’d love for us to have a strict guideline of who plays on the right and left side. With no Alexis, Gnabbers is the natural back up. The shoehorning of Ramsey or Wilshire ‘just because’ would irate me in such a circumstance. If they’re not good enough to break into the middle, their natural positions, then they don’t deserve to take up a position they can ‘do a job’ in because of this.

I feel if Gnabry is given a real chance (given that he’s having an excellent tournament + is fit) we could be seeing a real breakout season from another youngster, Bellerin style.

Iwobi is just a younger Gnabry whos ahead of him in the pecking order as things stand. If Gnabry becomes central to the team he should definitely sign a new deal, otherwise he’d be mad to.

Not sure this is going to be a pleasant season for any of our young prodigies hoping to get game time. A loan away would certainly help their development and moreso their confidence. Getting booed consistently does little to aid the learning curve.

Entirely depends on what kind of offers he has. He’s not going to go to a bigger club and get any more playing time there, while also going permanently to a smaller club may have him never being able to make the step up again.

Have him play another full season, get a fair chance at Arsenal and he’d still be young enough to move clubs if needed.

After a good Olympics, sure he will catch attention from the entire world.
At least some German clubs that can provide European games and playing time will want his service.

Yea, but that’s arguable if it’s really an improvement on his current situation. Making it at Arsenal is a bit different than making it in Germany at a club that isn’t Bayern or Dortmund. He’d be stupid to not at least try.

Id rather be a young player playing regularly at a smaller club than not at a bigger one. If he plays regularly this season cool, he should stay. If not he should go.

If Wenger keeps that many wide players (plus Rambo and Jack) on the team, it is not good for Gnabry (and all other young players) for sure.
It will be a huge decision for Gnabry to make, not Wenger/Arsenal.

Getting regular minutes at Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Schalke, can’t be worse than sitting at the bench (sometimes even not make the bench) with Arsenal, IMO.

Agreed, Wenger will run our good horses in to the ground to pip 4th place while at the same time having to whip them all the way through a last game second place finish in our CL group just like he always does. I’m afraid about the injuries this year more than I have been in awhile.

Well, as I said he can still sign a contract, play a full season somewhere and fight for a spot at Arsenal. If it doesn’t work out he’s young enough to just move on.

I know we’re not in the best situation right now, but leaving without ever having tried is also a bad career choice.
