I’ll admit I haven’t watched him recently, but I think if he plays around players at a higher level he’ll deliver in time.
Can’t see him doing any worse than what Havertz has done so far tbh, not to mention Xhaka’s first 4+ years here.

Neves is a good player though actually very good tbh
One to watch.
Moved to #rumour-mill
Neves would be a quality signing!
Yeah, as an understudy to Rice it’s a great move actually.
Wouldn’t be mad at this even though Partey is twice the player. If his injury profile is simply at breaking point whereby he will not feature more than half a season then bringing in a stable CM like Neves makes sense. Essentially would turn out as Rice replacing Partey and Neves replacing Xhaka. I maintain a stable CM is better for the team than having a CF like Havertz play deeper.
I actually see Neves as a Jorginho successor personally.
Similar ilk but Neves has more bite in him and likes to get dirty. He does remind me a lot of Arteta back in the day to be honest.
Potentially the other way round. Rice has been playing left-8 like Xhaka use to do.
Don’t like him for us, overrated and overpriced for me. Boring nothing special midfielder, solid enough for mid prem but no better than Kovacic and probs double the price.
I’m sure there are plenty of players out there at his level or higher that we can target. Would’ve rather had Hungarian dom for a start.
Wait, do you think he’s like Kovacic?
Yeah agreed @GC-Maniac
Kovacic perhaps edges it on athleticism but Ruben Neves is technically far more superior.
In terms of elite level yes, if anything I’d have Kovacic in higher regard as the better player.
In terms of play style he’s not the same as either of the two players I mentioned so wondering why you only picked one of the two to ask about?
Yes please
Would be a great signing if it happens
aint he an old codger though with scarcely any legs?
He’s like 25 lol
i was joking because he looks old and he seems slow on the pitch
I’ve been in a reflective mood this week after the dissapointment of not getting Buendia. My mood has been bolstered by the news that Xhaka looks set to leave the club. I know he divides opinion, but personally (and I have made no secret of this on this site), I’ve wanted Xhaka out of the club for a long time. I was there when he told me and other fans to fuck off when we’re trying to get him to get off the pitch quickly so we could win the game. Anyway, leaving all that aside, it looks like Xhaka is going to go this summer. Somthing that I didn’t expect and therefore an added bonus. Xhaka for me, represents the decline we have experienced over the last fews years and I will be pleased to see him gone. We should have gone for Kante and this represents the biggest failure of Wenger IMO, and the first time I questioned his judgement.
As a result I think we will have to bring in two new CM/DM players to bolster our midfield. I have been reflecting a lot about the prospect of Neves. My initial reaction was pretty underwhelmed. Seems like a very ‘safe’ transfer and nothing to get really excited about. However, the more I have thought about it, the more it makes sense. I was always impressed with Neves and Wolves’ midfield (not so much last season, but in past seasons). I also didn’t realise that Neves is only 24. He is already PL ready, and has the potential to still improve. Good all round player with good defensive abilities and good long range passing.
Lots of people have questioned the transfer fee, and I initially thought that £35/£40m was too much for a player like Neves. However, I had to remind myself that Liverpool paid £45m for Jota. This seems to be the going rate for a PL player of a certain quality.
I would personally prefer Bissouma - he remains my No.1 target for this summer. However, I do think that Neves would be a good buy. Yes, maybe a very sensible buy, but I think he would be solid and has the potential to grow and get better at Arsenal. He can come in and do a job and I’d be confident that he wouldn’t make the same number of mistakes as Xhaka. Essentially an upgrade on Xhaka!
As per my previous post, I would be happy with a Neves transfer, especially now we have Rice. My gut feeling in the summer that we needed to replace Partey was correct. Caicedo was my dream, but links to the likes to Neves and Zubimendi are very encouraging which suggest Edu and Arteta recognise the need to strengthen midfield. Rice and Neves could definitely play alongside each other in a double pivot. Technically very gifted and has excellent PL experience. I would suspect that Man Utd would be back in for him as well, so would expect competition for a permanent transfer, but I think if we can sell Partey and bring in a player like Neves as a replacement, it would be an excellent move.
He clearly favoured us over Newcastle and now they pull the plug.
