Arsenal trying to close this as soon as possible.
Somebody must be keen on Raphinha.

Purely speculation, I think Edu wouldn’t force an expensive signing whereas Arteta would.
He’s the technical director but Arteta is the manager. I don’t think Edu can influence the move being a success after it gets sorted out, it would be up to Arteta then to get him going. If he flops, Arteta can blame Edu forcing the player on him.

If Arteta drives a move, he can work it out being a success as long as he is on the job.

Any PL based player is being driven by Arteta 100%.

People overstate Edu’s influence generally

No point low-balling again. Feel like our bid was in the mid-30s but who knows.

We could possibly do a long ass negotiation with Leeds and agree a £45m deal. But if other clubs are interested, then a difference of £5m isn’t really worth the risk of losing out on the player, or him missing a big chunk of pre-season whilst talks are ongoing.

We need to meet their asking price of £50m and just wrap this bitch up. Raphinha is worth about £40-45m imo so it’s not like we’re being extorted New York mob style.

I think he’s responsible for the cheaper moves where he can use his connections to fill in some gaps that aren’t that big of a priority and Arteta doesn’t mind. It’s low risk moves that can’t bite Edu back. Even the Willian deal he managed to get him off the books a year later without too much hustle.

Well, it’s interesting the fee submitted hasn’t been revealed yet. I do wonder what it was.

I feel this is accurate.

On Willian, we had to pay the dude off so there was some hassle

Did we? I think he took a massive pay cut and joined Corinthians on a free.
Don’t think it was like Ozil or Auba.

I stand corrected

I think it’s really obvious that Mikel and Edu are working closely in tandem this season, I mean this video he essentially says that it’s him and Mikel not one of the other. I imagine they have to form a united front to get the board to sign off on these expensive acquisitions. It’s a good dynamic though much better when Emery would suggest a list of names and the Technical Directors would go in the complete opposite direction

Did you find interesting what he said about Vieira having a quality (in the final third) that nobody has a in the team?

Good interview to be fair. Teased us in the end as well about other deal they’re working on.

Leeds have got a bit of time yet too monitor the interest in this yet. Also the player probably wants too see this out a bit longer.
Not as easy as we think these deals and probably a line that you dont want to push too hard on. Is what it is.

Does it matter who’s driving the transfers.

I don’t really care, let’s just sign these ballers.

Oh that’s baloney.

All Edu has to do is Venmo £65m to Victor Orta’s business account.

I’ve seen somewhere that he(Raphinha) wants this sorted quickly.
Leeds could also use the funds to reinvest.

From Raphinha’s point of view, Barca is the obvious favoured destination. But it looks like that is dead unless other deals they’re working on fall through.

He’d definitely consider Spurs as well given they are in the CL, and he would fancy himself to start above Kulusevski on their right.

Arsenal are at best second but probably third choice. Even if we make the right bid, he’s probably thinking he can do better. Unless the Edu connection gives him an added incentive, thinking he’ll have better chance of being an important part of Brazil’s squad for the WC

Barca agreeing terms with Raphinha before the end of the season, based on Leeds being relegated.
Hardly encourages him to try very hard the rest of the season, and I’m sure it’s not supposed to be allowed.

I’m not naive, I realise this kind of thing is common, but when it’s so blatant and could call into question whether a player would even want their team to win games it should surely be investigated

Yeh I mean it’s good they realize our creativity outside Odegaard is complete dog shit, even ESR isn’t being groomed enough to play the CAM role consistently. I do always find it refreshing when the manager or higher ups talk about deficiencies within the squad with sincerity.

It really feels like him and Mikel are trying to build a balanced squad. Though saying that now is premature, we’ve only signed one proper player and he probably won’t walk straight into the first 11 this season.

I feel like I need to see some actual, realistic progress before I can start singing Edu’s praises in this market. If he gets the two Brazillians and Martinez over the line then I’ll never question him again.
