Beyond defining Cruyff position on a football pitch.
The greatest of all time. Revolutionising footballer in terms of vision and rewriting the role of a footballer. There’s been plenty of great players since but none who pushed the game as far as he did.

Yeah, you could say one of the most influential people in the history of the game looking purely at the game itself. If not the most influential. Combining his impact as a player and as a manager. And didn’t have any controversy around him (as Platini etc…).
His influence is massive even nowadays with Guardiola, with the principles Cruyff brought to Barca.

Everything else aside now… That dribbling ability was absolutely insane.

It’s a perfect storm Cruyff to Pep. It’s why Messi is Messi really. The stage was set.

In terms of legacy on the game no one compares. Revolutionary player and manager, just a shame the '74 and '78 world cup didn’t go his way as I feel he would’ve had his legacy cemented among many as the GOAT if he had

They win it in 78 if he goes imo.

He was/is a bit of a cunt for that imo. Because of him players like Willy van der Kuijlen and Jan van Beveren don’t have the international career they could have. After doing all that he abandons the team because his wife asks him.

Yeah in his book he mentioned a kidnap attempt but didn’t stop him doing punditry work on British tv for the final.
There’s definitely a uncompromising side to Cruyff.

He went to Los Angeles a year later…somehow only Argentina is dangerous?

Well tbf it was at the time but I think your point stands and it’s something seriously open to question.
I didn’t really buy it. His contract disbutes with the Dutch FA are well known and Happel wasn’t Michels either. Bit more pragmatic and not sure how that would of went either.
Mentally strong side 78 though and in some ways better equipped than 74. Certainly for a tournament in Argentina anyway.

He was one of the mightiest men in football, no doubt. When he thought Ajax wasn’t going the right way 10 years ago he basically took over, just like that. Obviously some of his pawns have been driven out themselves since, but he basically came in and said this is how we’re going to do it.
