Guess we have Martinelli on our left side then. Sigh.

Don’t be afraid of the potential Strolls.

Running fast isn’t potential

Seemed to work okay when he scored at Chelsea. I’m at peace with the fact we didn’t sign Sterling even if he’s a player I like.

I’m not at peace with the glaring weakness on that left side.
Hopefully ESR takes more of the minutes which improves the technical level of the side.

I’d rather we just signed a good quality left sided player to reduce the amount of time we have to afford to the likes of Martinelli and ESR. If they can develop without being over relied upon

Martinelli and ESR are hardly a glaring weakness.

Jesus may play there a little, Saka may play there a little, if we pull our heads out of our butts and sign another forward they can play there too.

Martinelli isn’t there with his production yet and may never be, ESR got goals but I’m not so sure that’s something he will replicate again and again plus he isn’t really a winger.

We’ll have to wait and see. I just don’t think it’s a glaring weakness. I’d like to think that adding a real striker and potentially a new midfielder will benefit the left side of the attack.

Jesus will draw attention away from Saka and a new midfielder in that left position would presumably be able to link a little better with whoever plays on the left wing than Xhaka can.

Is it our strongest position? No. Could we upgrade there? Sure and we should. But it’s not a disaster by any stretch if we add goals via the midfield.

That left side is just kinda underwhelming for me to keep it real, I think these guys are talented but it’s just not the requisite quality at this point in time.

Well yeah. The left side is an electric stove but we’re cooking with gas on the right (Saka-Jesus-Tomiyasu-Odegaard). There’s absolutely no comparison but I think a midfield upgrade would help unlock some of that potential and address the balance in the team.

Agree, I’m very interested to see if Martinelli can take a step forward in terms of production. Unless we’re going for a genuine top player I’d rather keep the powder dry and develop Gabi/ESR with PL game time.

I think a front 3 of Jesus - Eddie - Saka can work too if we need to mix things up

This one is a disappointment

Really wanted us to be in for this guy, would have added unbelievable quality and belief into the side.

That left side is a clear weakness. Those two are not good enough (or available enough) over a full season yet. Oversight to not sign a wide forward.

“Is he gonna miss?”
“Why is he running like that?”
“Shit, did I leave the kettle on?”

We’re talking about the biggest mercenary the past decade here, nothing weird about it.
