What is this “came of age” shit the club are putting out on social media lol. In what shape or form did this team achieve anything this season or progress in any way?
The optics and interviews from the club recently have been pathetic.

You’ve got a point, but surely the progression to the semi final of the CL is some sort of progress, given we went out to Bayern in the QF last season?
Cup run “progression” is weird there’s a completely clean slate with new circumstances and matches every season. With leagues it can be argued sure you get points tallies, the same games every season but with cups I don’t think it makes any real sense. Teams get to a final one year and bow out the first round the next and vice versa.
Quarter final… semi final… really all you can say is we beat a great side for once and that was our only achievement this whole season.
Again, can’t really argue with your conclusion but there a re a lot of caveats if you ask me.
We could have done better (especially in the league), but there are so many reasons as to why we haven’t done so. Some of them are on us (as a club), some of there are more external and outside of our influence.

Same experience.
yeah its also about depth.. I love Nwaneri, but we are realistically looking for him to score and create goals from our bench at 17… It absolutely matters when your 1/2nd 2nd/3rd strikers are out and you are missing your (maybe) best CB. Even with those things rectified, we knew going into this season we didn’t have the striking firepower to win trophies, let alone the f*ing CHampion’s League - but we showed we belonged despite all that.
Disappointing to fall away in the Prem so badly, but CL was an impressive run and we proved we belong.

Single elimination in particular is a crap shoot, especially with depth considerations, priorities, and scheduling, etc..
CL is more meaningful b/c of the structure of the comp - you get enough games and then you have 2 legged elim so its not as random as FA Cup, for example (plus, it is treated as priority always).
Points/38 is always going to be the best measuring stick in general but it is also tricky as every season has been so weird lately… this year second place will be in the low 70’s most likely and some years it has been 90+. Distance between 2nd and 7th is also really compressed - only 7 points between them. Pretty unusual. And of course now we have Newc, NF, AV fighting for Europe and no Spurs, ManU anywhere to be seen.

To think about this.
If we had the depth, would Nwaneri and MLS have the chance that they had this season?
It is lousy to miss out the league and CL, but in long run we produced two really good home grown. It is not that bad
yeah agree with that… i think the real issue is Martinelli wasn’t at his best and we had no strikers… Nwaneri and MLS are big positives and glad they got their minutes and it is good investment into future for sure.

Martinelli started to look better after MLS broke into the side. MLS, with Rice on the left of midfield meant Martinelli saw more of the ball. The tradgedy is that Martinelli just has no brain - he predetermines what he is going to do (shoot or pass/cross) and no matter what happens or what the best option might be, he doesn’t look up and just does whatever his initial thought was

Martinelli now is only good enough for the last few minutes in games that we need to defend.
His speed is pretty much useless on the attacking side.

I’m obviously on some copium but I actually think Martinelli will improve under these conditions
I definitely don’t rule it out and am not really one to want to jettison him. I’d like to see us shed Jesus for his own sake, get Gyorkeres and Nico, then we have Trossard and Martinelli as back-ups to wings and striker, with Nwaneri in the mix too and to spell Saka. It could work.
