A great player in his day, very reminiscent of Platini and Zidane shame @Stroller isn’t here I’m sure he would have agreed.
Outrageously elegant player.
Randomly came across this video… Have to say I had no clue about this season, had no clue he finished his career in such a brilliant way and left such a mark on Feyenoord too.
Felt a bit embarassed for not knowing this tbh.
Apparently Ajax decided not to give him another contract at the end of 1982/83 season, with him being 36 at the time.
He decided to go to Feyenoord and led them to their first league title in a decade and also won the cup.
A ridiculous footballer.
Some iconic goals but also some bangers I’d never seen before in this video. Love the music and the 80s production values too.
Love the way that Brasilian RB (Josimar celebrates his goals)
His goals were great too. Not a player I’ve ever heard much about, I had to google him.
The fake plastic stolen wealth clubs and the arms race they spurred on has been so damaging for football as a whole.
That’s why I laugh at their shills talking about cartels.
Football was much more equal before they arrived with their stolen wealth.
I remember reading about Josimar a few years ago. He went to the World Cup off the back of sheer luck and didn’t even have a team at the time. Scored two worldies, got named in the team of the tournament and then ended up with a big coke and alcohol habit and basically floated around a few more years before fading into obscurity
Atletico spent quite a bit that season eh?
Just to get relegeted a year or two later
Look at all the forwards on that list.
What’s happened to my sport.
Some absolutely sensational pieces of business on that list.
One of the greatest fullbacks in Cafu for 7.6m Euros ffs
Da fuq was Laudrup doing in Japan anyway. He won the league with Ajax that season then retired.
Not about to pretend i know who Roberto Rios is mind.
Tbf seems like a decent sum for that time, for a defender, coming from South America.
Surely was among the most expensive defenders at the time I’d assume.
A season later Betis would sign Denilson for a whopper of a fee.
And also Les Ferdinand, not so sensational.
Classic Spurs.
He wasn’t bad at Spurs tbf.
Pound for pound, probably better business than Collymore going to Villa, who flattered to deceive. (Such a shame- in the mid 90s, his trajectory was phenomenal)
Juninho from Boro to Athletico. What a change of environment.
