PL Title Race 24/25

Possible silver lining?

I think this thing about the fixture list is very overplayed. Look at our fixtures for the rest of the season - where is the run of games you can confidently predict we will take a huge haul of points from?

It would be for a team that is playing like they mean business

It is at this point for sure, because we can’t complain about them but also drop maximum points to Bournemouth and fail to even show up at Newcastle. The supposedly “easier” ones so far such as Leicester and Southampton at home haven’t been blistering performances either. The red card and fixture excuses are out the window now.

All this goes to prove is what we’ve all known from birth, there are no easy games in the Prem. and you can’t actually predict anything. So many variables, so on to the next game. And yeah, BUY A REAL FUCKING STRIKER.

City dropped maximum points to Bournemouth and drew with Newcastle.
They also barely beat Southampton at the Etihad.

So they’re not exactly blowing our mind, neither with their results nor their performances.

If our lot didn’t piss about we’d have 24 points from 30.

Arteta needs to sort it out.

No they aren’t but the combination of Liverpool having this cushion and City still being City makes it hard to see us staying in this unless we go on one of our customary runs starting RIGHT NOW. We already can’t be dropping many points from here.

We ain’t winning shit playing this fucking terrorist football and rightly so.

Pretty much that is the key… if we play that wank crap, we will finish 3rd. If we get back to silky Teta-ball with Ode, etc. and we don’t have bad luck with injuries (and obviously prevent the red mist), then we have a shot… City are vulnerable and I think once Pool hits a wobble, we’ll see what happens.

Feels horrible right now. Really shit.

Missing Ødegaard shouldn’t collapse your entire team’s output / ceiling.

We had zero margin for error before Newcastle and we lost lol. For me, the race is finished.

The team has to put together an astronomical run to prove everybody wrong. I can’t see it happening. We are too far behind and our form / football is too bland to give any real hope of something magical happening. Very sad, depressing day.

Honestly don’t get all the dramatics, I’ll be as ridiculous as anyone else during the 90 mins but Christ you’d think we were winless in 10 league games having played all scrubs.

Crying about a poor performance at Newcastle while we went toe to toe with this mythical city everyone thinks we can’t catch, at their own ground.

  • 7/9 in CL
  • People moan about the lack of cup runs but we’re through again and should be in the semi.
  • 5 points off our biggest threat despite ending 30% of our games a man down
  • 5 points off our biggest threat despite playing away at them, spurs, villa and Newcastle already in 10 games.
  • Add in the injuries we’ve all seen us dealing with in defence and Odegaard up top.

Is this real life that people are throwing in the towel? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I see both views personally.
Can’t sugarcoat it, while we’ve had some good moments so far, we’ve dropped quite a few stinkers and there have been a couple of games already that we’ve looked hopeless.
Just not something we’ve seen often with this current group of players, and just not something you see from a team that’s serious about winning major trophies.
On the other hand, our rivals haven’t looked particularly impressive either.
So hope is still there for me but we’ve got fix up soon because at the moment we look incapable of going on a decent run.

I just need you to have this energy for Merino and you will be my best mate.

Your first two points have nothing to do with the EPL.

The issue here is that we’ve yet again put ourselves in a position where we need to win almost every game from now till season’s end to win the league.

We’ve done it to ourselves.

The season can still be saved with a deep UCL run, top 4 finish and a domestic trophy.

But the EPL? It’s out of our hands imo.

No, man city being a bunch of cheating cunts is what has done this.

Well the first two are not irrelevant for the way people talk about the club atm.

I also don’t get why you keep saying we have to win almost every game, especially after watching city then go and fuck up the exact same day.

It will be a lower points total winning the title this year, quite clearly. Plus last year we almost did do exactly that and win every single game when we needed to.

True, it’s unlikely City hit close to or over 90 points without Rodri.
I know they’ve hit 98 and 100 points before he arrived but their team was stronger back then and the competition wasn’t as fierce.

Honestly, it’s hard to see us winning the title. It only takes a good run of a few weeks to get back in it but I can’t see a stretch where we are going to just constantly rack up points.

Still some serious holes in the squad which have been majorly exposed.

I’d like to see us make some runs in the 3 cup competitions.

Because I think depending on what’s happening in the courts, City will also not be winning the league this year.

If the points deduction is given this season (I don’t see why it wouldn’t), that opens the floor for Liverpool to steamroll. So there could still be two high 80, low 90 point teams up to win the title.

(Unless Villa, Chelsea, Man Utd can steal points from Liverpool somehow)

For us to be one of them, we need 24 wins in the remaining 28 games. Maybe slightly fewer if we get 1-2 draws.

Whilst it’s mathematically possible for us to do it, I’m not seeing any sign from the team that we have it in our locker.

We’ve used up a ton of lives already. Every EPL game from now is like a final, it shouldn’t be this way for a champions-elect team like we’ve been the past 2 years.
