I cannot fathom Liverpool in their first season post-Klopp winning the league by hitting high 80s or low 90s with barely any investment in the summer.
Neither their performances nor their results suggest they’re that good this season.

I hope it catches up with them and they fall apart soon.
The last couple seasons there seem to be a couple teams which seem to be over performing in the first half of the season and eventually they’re caught out.
Happened to Villa and Spurs last season.
It happened to Man Utd, Spurs and Newcastle the season before.
And even further back it happened to Chelsea, West Ham, Spurs(again, lol), Leicester and others.
Forest are good candidates of having such fate this season.
From what I’ve watched of Liverpool this season, they could be another.
If we don’t win the league I am fine with it on the caveat we actually get a bit of luck in the domestic cups and win one
I could be underestimating them, but I’m still far more worried about our -5 points compared to City than the -7 against Liverpool.
Not that the last season counts much, but they had a big advantage on us in the middle of the last season too, while they played much better than now and actually looked as the main favourites to win the league around the turn of the year.
I still think if we can turn it on properly and if our injury issues settle to some extent we are a better team than Liverpool and we should be able to surpass them.
I think Liverpool can only win the league if both us and City fail to resolve our issues and continue to struggle both with the injuries and inconsistent form. I’d be highly surprised to see them winning it if one of us gets back to full form.
Can’t even express how disappointed I was seeing the team so dead yesterday, but after a good night drunk sleep lol and remembering how the last season went and how bad things looked after those defeats against West Ham and Fulham, I definitely have a lot of hope things can get much better, especially after Ode gets back.
Quite a big question now and a big worry for me is - can Ode stay fit after he gets back and not have some kind of recurring issues? Doesn’t have to happen but those aren’t rare with these kind of injuries.
If he does end up having those we are well and truly doomed and you can absolutely write us off, but we all hope he has recovered completely and he’s back to his second part of the last season’s form very soon.
If that does happen I think you could assume our form could slightly change. ![]()
I know what you mean but we did lose the title last season so even if we manage a similar turn around, it will have to be even better than last season for it to matter.
I think we are underestimating Liverpool. I don’t think they are favourites for the title but they look like the closest contenders. Fixtures and injuries have been kind to them but they look more like a team than we do.
My worry is we looked rather average even in the games Ode played. Maybe those were early days and he hadn’t fully found his mojo. Also, will he come back to his best straight away? What if it takes him a few weeks to find his best form? Of course, his injury niggles like you mentioned will be another concern.
In the end, if we need Ode to come back for us to turn this around, then I think we can write off our title challenge right now cause no title winning side should be that dependent on 1 player. I think there’s more wrong with this team at the moment than just missing Ode.
Liverpool have looked rather average in almost every game but nobody seems to care about that when crowning them champions elect.
We’re stronger in depth of quality than last season but with the injuries we’ve had to key players that depth is already being stretched.
Although Liverpool have started well, they haven’t been that convincing so it’s still likely that Man City are the favourites but if we lose to Chelsea it might be too much of a gap to close despite being early in the season.
We really need a top quality striker or LW or both and not upgrading any of Trossard, Havertz and Jesus, who are very good squad players, is seeing us struggle upfront.
That’s true. But Ode will be a massive boost and hopefully we resolve some other issues along the way too.
I absolutely wanted us to be less dependant on Ode for a long time and been calling for us to get a decent replacement for him since we all saw Vieira can’t do it. But many big teams have always been very dependant on one big player, that’s nothing strange.
Just look at how much City are struggling withouth Rodri, not to go further.
We looked good for a few games withouth him… Some even started to suggest we look better withouth him, lol.
We’re going through a rough patch atm but there’s surely more to come from this team. Would be pretty foolish to write us off already even if you’re not an Arsenal fan.
I thought about this and while City certainly miss Rodri (any team would), they don’t look completely disjointed without him. And this is typical City, they don’t look convincing in the first part of the season but do enough to stay in the hunt, and come the New Year, they shift gears.
I have no doubt we’ll turn our current malaise around but I feel it might be too late by the time that happens. Let’s hope we start our recovery in the next game against Chelsea.
They still gave much to prove considering thier early fixture list but perhaps because key players know what’s it takes to win and also they have Championship pedigree.
Well, that didn’t show last season when they collapsed towards the end. ![]()
And there was so much big talk from them about how they wouldn’t fall off like we did the season before.
Yeah, it’s true. That was a big time collapse to be fair
I’m helping the missus make the christmas cake today. And, as we always have done, we make a ‘christmas wish’ as we stir the ingredients in the bowl. They’re supposed to be a secret, right? Fuck it, here they are: Get Ode back in, and sign a killer/assassin number 9.
I am hoping recent performance (no wins in the last 4, 3 losses in a row and winning just 1 match in last 5 PL matches) will compel Aston Villa to convincingly beat Liverpool this weekend.
With Odegaard & Merino’s performance today, I still have hopes.
There is a big gap now. Ideally, we should have been 4 points better, but if we get our heads right from here on, the fixture list allows us to edge closer by end of the year.
Whereas in the same period, Liverpool will play City, Newcastle(A), Tottenham(A).
If Liverpool maintain that 9 points gap, then they deserve the title.
Chelsea and Arsenal are 100% out of the title race now if it wasn’t already the case. 9 points from the leaders is simply too great to overcome.
Liverpool and Man City are better than Arsenal and we have to now shut up as a fanbase and admit that.
Even Arsenal know it’s done now.
What’s this based on exactly? Lol and do you mean the players, the coaching staff, the behind the scenes guys or a mix of those?
The reaction of the bench and players at full time when that final chance went begging tells its own story.
9 points back from Liverpool who I see as over-performing points wise compared to how they play.
4 back from city despite them clawing a last minute draw on their own patch against us.
Odegaard is back, defence is back and another tough away game out the way now.
I’m not seeing anything to suggest it’s over already, it’s madness.
