Phones Thread

Yeah it seems like they addressed the major issue with the last Pixel line up which was the atrocious battery life. It’s getting a serious mAh upgrade from 2700 to around 4000, which is pro max levels of battery. Better cameras, tiny notch, 90hz refresh rate and a less battery hungry soc. Best of all stock Android, which to me is how all skins should be! Plus you get a pair of £200+ Bose headphones if you order from Carphone warehouse

Yeah, I had a Samsung Galaxy A3 before this Xperia, so I know about all the unremovable bloatware. It’s a bit annoying but I still loved that phone tbh, if the battery hadn’t completely knackered I likely would have stayed with it a little longer than I did.

As you can see from my last two phones, I shop in what you’d probably say is the lower mid range normally, I just need something functional really. But from what I’ve seen, the A71 looks very much like it sits towards the top of the mid range, so it’ll be better than any smart phone I’ve ever had, I’d say I’m very likely to be impressed and very pleased with it, even if it’s very unexciting to some of you proper phone enthusiasts/big spenders

That’s fair enough and honestly I wouldn’t even class most of those phones as mid range anymore because the specs are top tier. Hope you enjoy what ever you get bro. Setting up a new phone and organising all your apps is one of the best feelings :+1:t4:

I was interested in the new Pixel - though it doesn’t have the newest Snapdragon processor does it?

I’m just hoping that I can transfer over all my apps with the accompanying data neatly.

I have an absolute boss career mode going on on New Star Soccer and I need to play a couple more seasons and win the CL before I post a lot of screenshots on here to disgrace the other scrubs on here who play the game.

If not I might need to keep this phone active for a bit longer so I can achieve my footballing aspirations first.

Haha can’t even imagine losing that kind of progress.

Yeah got to use google cloud drive for that. Basically back up everything and make sure it’s turned on in what’s app and other apps that way you can just basically sign in to the new phone and everything will start to transfer.

No it has the 765g which basically has a 5G modem built into the chip saving space and allowing for a bigger battery I think. Plus cuts down cost. It’s not top tier like the 865 but in real world I doubt anyone would notice the difference especially since Pixels use stock apps which are all very light.

I like my Pixel. I upgraded to the 3a after trying the first edition of it. I’m quite happy with it. I’ve played with Samsung and has a OnePlus briefly and a HTC way back in the day. I’ve never liked any of the skins the other companies add to Android. Stock is the only Android I ever plan to own from here on out.

I still miss my iPhone at times. So much smoother. This phone is a bit glitchy at times. My main issues are random freezing, not swiping (temp freeze) and spotify issues on it (randomly won’t play and randomly closing). Don’t know if any other Pixel users have had these issues.

I’m waiting for now. My Pixel 3a was purchased on sale when the Pixel 4 was released. I’m tempted by the 4a but really annoyed that the 5G model is so big. I prefer the smaller form factor and the 4a 5g and the 5 are too big for my liking. The OnePlus was too big for my hands. 5.8" max. With a toddler, I need to be able to use it with one hand.

Yeah unfortunately this is one of the main issues with android phones. The apps aren’t optimised as well as the devs have to make apps run for hundreds of different phones with different parts etc…, and android itself is just bad at memory management.

It’s also crazy that most companies sleep on or gimp smaller size phones since there really is a bit market for it. Which is why I think apple also releasing a smaller iPhone 12 mini which is 5.4” inches in screen size.

Got my Galaxy A71 today. Getting to grips with it but really like it so far. Screen feels absolutely massive compared to what I’m used to

I spent most of yesterday setting these up, saved my pixel 5 for over week so I could do it all one time. Will give my thoughts on these device later if anyone’s interested.

@JakeyBoy hope your enjoying mate, larger screens can be a shock at first but once you get used to them it’s hard to go back to a smaller one

Theres so much OA on my screen at any one time now!

It’s a bit wider than my old phones screen, but when I place the phones side by side and line up the bottom of both screens I can see that the screen has got to be at least 40% taller, so I think it’s the radically different proportions I’m having to get used to as much as just the change in size.

Love it already.

Though it does have three more cameras than I know what to do with. Is it genuinely useful or is it just phone companies running out of innovations and just trying to wow us by adding extra cameras? Am I at an advantage having four cameras versus some poor sucker who only three?! @BizzySignal

How do you feel it fits in your pocket when it’s that big? That’s gotta be one of my biggest pet peeves with the increase in size of phones

I was gonna say “just fine”, but then I leaned forward and it fell out of my dressing gown pocket onto the bathroom floor, which isn’t something that happened with my smaller phone haha

I had a Galaxy Note 2 when they first came out. It had a lovely 5.5 inch screen and all the iPhone wankers with their 4 inch phones literally laughed at me when I took a phone call on it. Now you struggle to find a half decent phone with a screen that small.

Massively so. You have a 64mp main camera for massive details, a depth camera which will help with stuff like Bokeh effect (blurred background) pictures, wide angle lens which is actually very useful so much so I would say it’s nearly my most used lens, and a telephoto so you don’t have to digitally crop your photos if you want to zoom in. I think like the bigger screen once you get used to more variety with the different cameras its hard to go back.

Yes, yes, I’m still mainly going to use my fancy camera to take pictures of my dog though.

Just picked up the iPhone 12 mini and boy is it a breathe of fresh air.

I think our general assessments/need of a large screen size is manufacturer created - as it makes them more money.

I can actually use my phone with one hand in its entirety. And with it being all screen, the screen isn’t small.

Feel the same. I tried a OnePlus and couldn’t do a damn thing with one hand. Have a Pixel 3a and never understood why you’d want the XL.

I’m considering going back to iPhone. The 5s was my favourite. Last one I had was a 6s. Opted to move to Pixel but Google is pissing me off. Fuck privacy. And now they are taking away the unlimited photo storage, except for Pixel users, but it’ll be high Res compressed photos now. Changes from June 2021. I’m sure they’ll eventually take free photo storage away completely. So big bonus gone. And their phone storage sizes suck.

Yeah I did pixel once, lasted 5 months and swapped back to iOS.

All down to preference; but damn, the iPhone 12 is, for the first time in a while, the best looking device range in market.

Go figure though, as it was the iPhone 4 that actually had significant design principles - was basically a Leica camera.
