Other Clubs' Transfers

OGS personally intervened - the clincher was making up a nickname during a call with the player, “the Beekster”. Our source close to the matter said that Van De Beek was thrilled to be referred to in the third person and couldn’t wait to sign for Man United joining Mr Magoo, Pogalicious and Genital Rash.

Don’t forget J-Lingz and Big Mayo.

I’ve only seen him play a few times but Van de Beek has never stood out to me as a top talent. And his stats are actually really poor for an attacking midfielder playing in that side. I realize he has some versatility and could be a useful squad player for them in a variety of roles but I have a hard time seeing him as a big addition. He seems like decent cover for Bruno/Pogba but not someone who will really elevate them.

Would love to have him here.

Hope he doesn’t go to United. Also if he does there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll Pogba his career and get Ole’d to shits and I don’t wish that on any neutral out there. Lose - lose for me if they get him.

He does score/assist quite often so his goal contribution ain’t bad. What stats of him don’t you like?

Compare those stats to Ziyech or Tadic and they look really pedestrian. In the context of that side, he really doesn’t do much. He doesn’t get a lot of goals and assists compared to other attacking midfielders or wingers, he never dribbles, he doesn’t make a lot of key passes, he doesn’t complete that many passes of any kind, etc.

Some people seem to rate him but he looks more like Davy Klaassen than a big player to me.

He’s predominantly a CM though even plays DM here and there , what kind of numbers is he supposed to be producing? Considering his position he’s actually quite productive IMO

Both Ziyech and Tadic should be getting higher numbers since they’re far more attacking.

You may be right that be won’t be a top player when taken outside of the Ajax bubble but it won’t be due to his numbers.

From what I can see he has been playing as an attacking midfielder more than a CM in recent years. Even as a CM he has good goal contribution but really doesn’t stand out statistically otherwise. For example his passing statistics are really poor for a CM - very few passes completed, at a low percentage, with almost no throughballs or long balls.

Putting too much weight on stats can be a mistake. But I was surprised at his statistics when I looked at them, especially beyond simple goals+assists. He plays in a dominating side that scored for fun and has the ball a lot. He has routinely been like the 7th or 9th best Ajax player over the course of a season when it comes to dribbles, key passes, passes completed, etc.

If that transfer goes through its such a good transfer by United, I genuinely feels his calm enough and intelligent enough to play in multiple positions, easily replace fred, play along side pogba vs shit teams and matic/fred against better teams. He doesnt really excel at much but hes good at pretty much everything and as Liverpool has shown, that’s the best kind of player at the moment.

Whoscored has him playing as a #10 three times last season. According to them he played CM twenty times and DM six times.

You may have a point about his passing but at 23 it’s not like he’s the finished article.

Whenever I’ve seen him play he’s been good, granted I don’t watch Ajax outside of the CL.

He’s a baller. At least Leeds are spending their money on good players. Unlike Villa who spent a fortune on a bunch of nobodies.

What do the Dutch folks in the forum think of Donny?

Good player but I don’t think he’s quite good enough for top level.
