You can’t reasonably expect clubs like United not to spend money, you can only hope that they spend the money poorly. On that basis, I like the transfer. I think he is a backup for Bruno/Pogba, not a first eleven player, and them spending 45m euro on a player like this, with a bunch of other needs still unfilled, makes it seem less likely that they’ll eventually spend 120m euro more on Sancho.
If we don’t get Aouar, this probably also gives us a free run at Grealish, who might end up being too expensive anyway but I can’t see United signing him now and not sure who else would be in the mix.
