Nico Williams

So he’s a good player then :grinning:

Such a special player. Tore Joao Neves apart to the point where Martinez had to hook him.
With Mendes nullifying Yamal, he looked like the main source of danger for Spain, and him going off changed the state of the game quite a bit.
Had a very good performance against France too.

He’s a different player when he plays for Spain, in a system where he’s allowed to express himself more. Playing with much better players certainly helps too.

He does owe to himself to make the step up and join a top club to fully realise his potential. Hope it isn’t in PL if he doesn’t join us though.

We have to get him.

If we do the sesko thing looks better.

Yep, I’m a huge fan of Rodrygo but I really think Williams has a very high ceiling hidden in him.

If you could develop both him and Sesko in the right way, with the athleticism they offer…

:ooo:

You could have a very special forward line there.

Would Williams be allowed to express himself here as he does for Spain? Cause I highly doubt Mikel would allow him to roam like he did yesterday.

Ask Saka.

If we’re actually choosing between Rodrygo or Williams we’re in a pretty good place. If we’re choosing between Sane and reintegrating Vieira we’re fucked.

Saka said yes.

Liked what I saw yesterday. Maybe his game improves when around better players? Rodrygo is still the winger that makes us title contenders. Williams has talent for sure. As stated numerous times, the Williams and Sesko combo is a bit too risky for my liking. Both are still developing and we are a team who need certifided players.

If this turns out to be another situation of one player or bust

Genuine question about this guy as I’ve never seen him play, but what warrants the 300k a week figure that’s thrown around a lot?
He’s not generational as far as I’m aware and his stats aren’t THAT impressive?

He’s one of the biggest talents of his generation(before Yamal broke through he was Spain’s biggest talent) but he doesn’t warrant 300k pw for what he offers, certainly not yet.

I think these inflated wage demands are down to him and his family not being that keen to go. His older brother plays for Bilbao and in general Bilbao have been very generous to his family. The idea I think is if you want to get him out of Bilbao you’ll have to pay up.

I think the biggest issue is that he’s already on close to that at Bilbao.

Bilbao doesn’t spend much at all on transfer fees due to their basque/homegrown only policy so they spend more on wages than you’d think for a club their size.

Is he on that? I thought he was on 200k or something, and as you mentioned Bilbao are able to pay such inflated wages because of their homegrown policy meaning they’re in a healthy spot financially.

Tbf, if he were to come here, I’d expect him to be on 150-200k pw. That’s what Martinelli is on.

I’ve searched this a few times and it seems he’s on about £170k a week at Bilbao

That seems a lot more reasonable. If he’s demanding 300k to move then its him and his agent that are the problem I guess.

I would have no problem giving that to Rodrygo, who has proven enough to be on roughly the same level as our highest earners. Giving that to Nico seems like a big mistake. He really hasn’t proven much and while you’d hope he could take his chance and make the starting LW position his own, I don’t think he has done enough to be the obvious first choice from the start.

Woah, is Rodrygo that proven to ask for such wages?
I don’t think either are on that level.

That put them as our highest earners.

I think Rodrygo is good but I’ve seen some go on like mans Neymar

He’s still got a lot to prove if he were to sign here

Rodrygo has been starting for Real Madrid for 3-4 years, has more CL goals in that time than anybody not named Mbappe or Haaland, etc. You’re betting on him taking the next step if given the LW position and the responsiblity of being the main man but he’s definitely a lot more proven than Nico. And I think he’s already on about 200k per week and reportedly wants a raise. Maybe it won’t take 300k to get him to move but probably pretty close if not.
