I thought Pocchettino was the dream, but Simeone…man, that’d be something
Simione would need to overhaul pretty much the whole squad if he came here lol
you’d have Simeone over poch? Why’s that?
I think only marginally. Simeone has won things. However, Poch has managed in our league already
Went toe to toe with Barcelona and Real Madrid and actually won something. No brainer in my eyes
Simeone was my first choice. What he’s done on a relatively modest budget compared with the big 2 in Spain has been incredible. I think he’d sort out our terrible defending and general lack of fighting spirit/mental fragility.
He can stay there tbh
End of the cycle for him, and he hasn’t helped them push off from their great heights of 2013-2016.
Recruitment has been poor, and the development of guys like Koke has been alright but not spectacular.
I’m calm.
I like Simeone but I’m not sure it would be a good fit at Arsenal. Sure, we’d be much more defensively solid and even some of these clowns at the back would likely improve because of the organization, but would this work out in the long run?
I’m not utterly wedded to the idea that Arsenal must always play possession based and attacking football, but many of our fans can’t get past this view. Simeone is a bit of a draw merchant as well and the biggest issue we’ve had this season has been a inability to push on and win matches, something I’m not sure he’s the best guy out there to fix.
Add all of that in with the fact that as far as I’m aware he doesn’t speak English, which frankly the next manager simply has too after what we’ve dealt with in the last 18 months. Not sure it’s a fit, and I very much doubt he’d be interested in coming to Arsenal anyway.
Simeone won the title with 6 draws. What about him (outside of his recent run) makes him a draw merchant?
He’s a winner and a top level manager.
Ah, that’s the problem. No room for that at Arsenal.
Well his current run is still relevant, and that title was won 6-7 years ago now. Not taking it away from him obviously, beating Barca and Real to the title is nothing to scoff at.
Do you not think that he wouldn’t fit this club for the other reasons I mentioned though? I think there’s problems there.
I think there’s be some serious cultural/adaptation issues tbh. I’d say Simeone’s style is more suited to Italian/Spanish clubs
Cholo is such a character, reckon he could do a job even with the language barrier.
Man the club needs a coach with a personality.
Think a percentage of our fanbase are like the board and scared of the demands he might bring.
Truth is we need that challenge as a club. Diego your very welcome for me.
Yup. Coaches like Simeone, Pep and Conte have strong personalities and you’ll see their imprint on the squad very quickly.
That’s why they’re successful. They arrive, they demand and they don’t take any shit. They command the respect of the squad.
Don’t forget, though, that some of these live off their egos. While it would be tantalising having any of those 3 at the helm, as easy as they galvanise, they can easily lose the confidence of the squads they’re with, too.
(I know the only real example I have of the 3 is Conte’s last year at Chelsea, but it still applies, I think)
Can we really afford to have someone who will eventually drive players to “throw” games?
I would love Simeone only because he’s such a hard ass, and I’d love to see our pussy ass bitch players get a reality check from El Cholo. However the football he plays isn’t what we should expect at Arsenal. I’d gladly sacrifice a bit more defensive stability for good attacking/entertaining football.
Tbh we’ve had too much of this shit in the past. We’ve only been boring for the last 18 months. We haven’t had defensive stability since 1999.
If El Cholo Toure, or whatever his name is, comes in, gets Arsenal winning, I’m perfectly happy with that. Imagine he comes in, we play Liverpool, we soak up everything they’ve got (because we’ve been drilled that way) and score one goal after one solitary attack in the whole game. I wouldn’t complain. It’s the plan B we’ve been craving for since Georgie Graham.
We haven’t won in 8 games. That’s abysmal
No to Cholo. #CHOLOFUERA #GraciasPorLosRecuerdosCholoPeroEsHoraDeDespedirnos#MIATLÉTI ()
No, but seriously, why are people so keen to settle for mediocrity? (Putting aside philosophical beliefs, going for Cholo now would be like Madrid choosing Mourinho in 2010 instead of Cholo. If you want a defensive manager, at least advocate someone who’s on the cutting edge or not at the end of his cycle.) It just isn’t a logical approach given our club’s condition.
A point I, Aussie Gooner and others have made many times over, but Powderfinger’s post from the other day bears repeating:
I really don’t care if it’s a big name. Hell, I’ve been advocating for Rudi Garcia for a while just because I like his style of football. Not because I think he’ll come in and win the Prem first season. We really need someone who can come in and organize this club. Give us some sort of ethos.
It’s been said many times by many different people, we went from Wenger’s “Express yourselves and don’t worry about to the opposition” to Emery’s “We will change everything about our tactics and setup for each opponent”. We need a happy medium here.
Personally I don’t think anyone discussed has demonstrated that outside of Poch. And I really don’t think he would come here. Could Arteta be that guy? Maybe, I don’t know. But I’d be willing to give him a chance. I also think Freddie should get at least a couple of games to prove that his hat should be in the ring.
