Next manager

Too Italian :xhaka2: fine wines, fine foods, long walks.

Fuck preparing for football games every week.

Just do enough for the big ears every fortnight or so

That’s my guess.

@Flexo @Electrifying on the surface of it a title and two cups with Feyenoord is really excellent and should be enough for a step up. But Feyenoord wasn’t well managed at all when he was there. There was no clear idea or set up to identify during his stint. The team really was like loose sand. He didn’t really show a abillity to develop players. That title year it was more like lightning struck (Jorgensen having a 20 goals/10 assist season etc.) for them rather that it was a consequence of the management of van Bronckhorst.

I imagine Poch is going to wait to see if he replaces Zidane first. We should wait for that too.

What do people think of Bielsa potentially?

Excited me. Think it’d be a good ride and just get us relevant.
Club is crying out for a personality and image.
Can’t stress this enough. We are bland as fuck as a club, brand, enterprise or whatever we are now defined as.

I agree with Stroller. I got a mate who supports Leeds and asked him after I saw his name come up here. And they love him. Has a philosophy isn’t afraid to drop players and tell them what time it is.

After watching some Leeds games online and reading about the guy (mentor/influenced Poch, Simeone and Gallardo) I think he’s exactly the type of person we need here.

I’ve loved Bielsa since he was at Atheltic Club but he really isn’t the guy we need right now. Would be fun but would not halt our overall decline.

Different class to the other names that have come up recently. People talk about wanting someone with a vision, this guy doesn’t just have a vision he’s got third eye tripping balls because he just took a bunch of mushrooms type of vision. I’d actually be interested in watching us play if he was the coach, players would actually want to come to this dumpster fire of a situation if he was the coach. I’d also feel somewhat more protected from the fears of having Mendes run the club since Bielsa is such a strong personality.

I think who ever we appoint will be telling. I have some concerns about the senior figures at the club preferring vanilla or tame personalities ie managers who won’t rock the boat with creative destruction.

I think Brendan Rogers would be a good candidate if he’s gettable.

Ancelotti is 7th in Serie A, why are we gonna even think of signing him?

You’re overrating Bielsa significantly here. I’m a fan of his for the work he’s done over his career and in general for his significance as a football mind but there’s a reason why top clubs don’t consider him. His most recent project at Marseille didn’t go too well and his methods wore thin at Athletic too. Not someone I’d consider nor do I think would be considered. (Nor the man to take the club forward as @will24 says.)

Given that, he’s no doubt our next manager.

These tweets from the Athletic are so confusing I swear. One minute some one is interested and willing to “listen” next minute their happy were they are!

Funny.

He tells BBC he doesn’t think they’ll go for Allegri, but on athletic, he says they might

I’m actually starting to trust Ornstein less these days. The club feed him info but I wonder if his sources aren’t as close to Raul as they were to Ivan…or if Ivan was his former source. :henry2:

Not ruled us out yet :giroud3:

Must be considering it.

However this turns out I’d say this is a bet the job and his reputation decision for Raul as the head of football at the club. After being involved in Emerys hiring and subsequent debacle then blowing 72m on poor Pepe who cannot even get off the subs bench just 4 months after signing Raul is rapidly running out of road.

As a result he can’t afford to go for a low cost risky option.

I think he’ll sign up a big name manager to try and save his career with us. One more big failure and fans will be baying for his blood every bit as much as they were for Emery and the conclusion will be inevitable if he gets this next big decision wrong.

I’m predicting a big name hiring by January unless Freddie does a magic job the next few weeks and buys Raul more time to make his choice.

I can understand going for unemployed managers first if employed managers are going to cost £14m. Then you give them a big salary and a long deal because you paid a fee, and then pay them another £14m when you sack them. Also if we’re looking mid-season rather than waiting to the summer (which is what I’m hoping we’re doing) then it takes away a lot of the complications.

I don’t think there are any sure things out there and any manager is going to be a gamble to some degree.

Got a feeling he’ll end up in La Liga

So we’re going to end up with Arteta because no big managers want to come…?
