Well Kiwior played when we had injuries last season, but none of our CBs really missed much time since Kiwior arrived. I know Saliba was injured but Kiwior had not long arrived at that point.
Nelson I do think could have gotten a bit more playing time. Vieira maybe too but he did get a bit when he first arrived once he got fit (rememberhe was injured for a while when he arrived and came through the U-21s). The problem with those two is they play the same position as our two best players.
I think the whole better options argument is not really valid since we have spent quite a lot and haven’t really left much money in the bank during the major windows and most of our signings have worked out pretty well. At best, you could probably criticise the signings themselves but I think the hit rate is good enough for the quality of signings to not be a very fair criticism, or at least on the basis that it’s hard for every signing to be a great one.

Saliba was much bigger talent than Lewis Skelly at the time.
The Saliba one is hard to ever really know for sure. Obviously he was great when we finally started playing him but how much of that is to do with getting some regular experience in France first?
In hindsight it’s obviously very reasonable to think he could have been at least as good as those guys you mentioned.
I think overall the situation has worked out and we have gotten 2 and a bit very strong seasons out of him.
Seems a decent little prospect but few times yesterday I felt he overran the ball and was fortunate to be fouled which bailed him out.

So I think he’s done very well for being 18 and about 7th in line to play full back in a team going for a league title

It says a lot for MLS though that he is starting this match when there are four senior left footed defenders on the bench who could be in that role (Calafiori, Zinchenko, Tierney, Kiwior).
He should be in the same boat as Tierney for me. Can’t rely on him and we should use his wages elsewhere
