Not judging Merino. He’s being asked to play in a very disfigured system whilst still trying to adapt to the team. And coming off a freak injury.
His profile in a Rice and Ødegaard triumvirate feels really balanced. He’s an adept all round midfielder, decent ball control, drag backs, can make incisive forward passes, makes very adventurous forward runs and of course is superb in the air / very aggressive in duels.
I’ll wait until we’ve seen Merino in a strong Arsenal starting XI in the second half of the season. He should be contributing quickly given his age and experience, but it’s way too early to be critical imo (unless he was a proper shitter but he’s far, far from that).

Embarrassing for MLS, Kiwior and Zinchenko but I’m not sure Zinny is fit, I think Kiwior might be low on confidence and it might be too big of game and tough ask against Salah to hand him MLS his first PL start.

It would be a hell of a vote of confidence but I think MLS might be more likely than Zinchenko at this point.
Zinchenko hasn’t played for two months. If Arteta wanted to start him against Liverpool, he had the perfect opportunity to bring him on against Shakhtar to get some minutes in his legs but he opted for MLS instead.
I also wouldn’t rule out Kiwior, as uninspiring a choice as that might be.

Yeh he always wants a good 1v1 defender when playing against Liverpool/Salah. Tomi used to get the nod over Zinchenko.
