We’re somewhat deep into the season atm, but this is only a start for him.
The guy hasn’t even been able to train with the team up until a few weeks ago. Played like an hour or so before this, and now it’s the first start for him.
You could obviously be right in the end, but it’s way too early to make such a definite judgement on him.
I think he’s a good player but relying on him to be your most creative midfielder is madness. It should be 2/3 of him, Rice, and Partey and never all three unless we’re trying to see out a match.
What I really don’t understand is why he went away from Trossard in the middle of the pitch, who had developed such a good relationship with Havertz. He could have started Jesus on the left, Sterling on the right and we would have the system that had been successful for the last month just with the wingers changed.
Rice, for his immense price tag, doesn’t have the passing capability to make our attack tick. I was hoping Merino might be bit better in that regards but nope.
We really need to get a player who can come into this midfield and add that passing range.
I’ve seen some shit takes in my time on this forum but writing off a player half way through his first start for the club might be up there with the worst of them.
Tbh I don’t think he’s done that well defensively either, we’ve been more under threat and more chaotic at the back than usual and he plays a part in that.
Last season he was unreal so i’m holding him to that standard which may be harsh but I expect him to get back there.
