Martin Ødegaard (c) (8)

yeah I think that moment there actually killed our entire campaign. I wonder what words if any did he give to the team.

Cause their confidence was completely shot and never returned after that game.

No our campaign was not killed by Gallas dropping in disbelief over us fumbling a crucial moment in the season if that’s what you mean. But a lot of what went wrong for Arsenal under Wenger during that spell in the Emirates era can be traced back to that game. Our form following those extremely disappointing two points dropped was terrible and in the back end we lost away to Chelsea and United having led 1-0 in both games and dominating the latter game. Honestly that season was a tremendous opportunity to win a title with a young squad and would have been historic to do it with such a young and exciting team to watch. Was bitterly disappointing to fall short by 4 points having led for so long.

We also fell to calamity against Liverpool in the CL partly because of disgusting refereeing decisions but also some crazy lapses in defence. Similar pattern in the league drop as well.

Was a very disheartening summer after losing crucial players to that seasons success like Hleb and Flamini, which without any worthwhile investment sent us tumbling down from any title challenge. Adebayor’s head being turned by Milan etc hurt us badly as well. Big drop off the following year with a lot of players. Continued that way for a stupidly long time… insanely disappointing years.

Here’s hoping this era doesn’t end in similar disappointment.. although it does seem very realistic that it could.

Not as bad as selling the best LB in Europe to strengthen our rivals in exchange for Gallas.

Nicely put. That 2008-2009 season will always be a taunted memory. The squad, the football was so exciting and for much of it we really looked like something special was brewing. I’m not going to put it down to either Wenger’s capitulation or that game against Birmingham specifically but to see our season decline in the way it did was a really tough watch.

Very differing circumstances but same is to be said of the 2022-23 season. I always find myself referring back at that Southampton draw and reminding myself of the mental fatigue that took on me as a fan.

Ode controlling and kicking the ball with one leg while stabilising his body with the other leg. Unreal stuff :joy:

Seriously though, there’s this thing I see some twitter nerds spout that Ode plays only on the right side of the pitch. I call it bs.

This guy needs to up his game big time. As the main creator in this team, his output is nowhere near the expected quantity or quality. Hasn’t been for quite a while.

Needs competition because this level isn’t good enough.

What are we talking about here? He’s been pretty good today, him and Gyokeres are developing their chemistry too.
Beautiful lob ball for that second goal.

If anything I’m a bit more worried about Rice today.

Probably being nitpicky, but the lack of vision from a midfielder in his position is just strange to me.

Felt the same. There were some moments where a forward pass was on but he chose to go back and play it safe. He has to improve in that area. But he played some good long balls to Saka.

Eze will be putting pressure on his starting spot fairly soon

Only if we sell Odegaard to Palace. I don’t think we’re getting Eze now. Nwaneri will be a squad option to cover the right and no.10 and Madueke is looking like a left winger.

Top quality.

He was bad, didn’t you hear?

More if that needed. Much more.

He was playing like a blind man for most of last season.

No one doubts he is capable of good things.

He just needs to do it more.
