Martin Ødegaard (c) (8)

Exactly, he’s more a moments player right now. He used to be a constant threat to teams. Hopefully, he rediscovery some consistency this season.

At his best, he’s a neat, precise, measured passer of the ball with a killer pass in him. He still has that killer ball, but is more sloppy with his general play.

Generally used to spend so much time running around in circles and sideways passing, now he has a focal point expectation is to target and move the ball forwards a lot more to aid the attack - at last !?

He is not the kind of playmaker that I prefer

He isn’t a KDB, James Rodriguez, Ozil, Fabgregas, Bruno type of creator

You can’t put the majoirty of the burden on him, he isn’t that inventive

Not the right person to be captain imo. Don’t see what he offers in that regard at all. Should be Gabriel, who’s been here since the tailend of the banter days. Then again I prefer defenders as captains than CAMs.

We won so I’ll be positive, he ran a lot and pressed well.

I think he was by far our best performer in the forward areas today, which is admittedly a low bar. He did a lot of good pressing work and there were a few moments he got on the ball and actually turned them in the middle of the pitch which no one else was capable of today. He had a few more moments where he missed chances to slip people in but overall I thought he was probably our best player outside of the back line and Raya.

Meh, too much being made about the captaincy. It doesn’t really matter a huge amount in modern football imo, you’ll have natural leaders on the pitch and that will show through, keepers should naturally be commanding, doesn’t mean they make good captains or that it even matters.

More issues will be created by removing him as captain and it’s not something I’m for.

I thought he was abysmal given his position as our creator in midfield and status as captain.

He, Martinelli and Madueke were all horrendous. Odegaard played more minutes and is supposed to be a player we rely on and he looked very unreliable—losing the ball, no vision, running around like a headless chicken, weak shots on goal continuing last year’s form.

That achilles injury really set him back.

Zubimendi looked better as a creator.

Seems like Odegaard has continued his bad form from last season into this season.

This season will be a total failure if we rely on Odegaard as our primary playmaker. Ive said it before early in the summer and will say it again, we absolutely need an output playmaker.

He was one of our best players and a huge part of why we were able to gut out a victory. A few balls didn’t come off, but often the runs were poor too. His work rate, ball carrying, and defensive contribution was immense given that Rice looked half fit or drunk all game, our striker was a non-entity in terms of holding up the ball, and it was the kind of match where we usually rely on those players to win duels and get up the pitch.

Quick mention of his through ball to Saka in 92nd min. That was brilliant

I’m inclined to give it more than one game where everyone looked off it tbh

Yeah, and as bad as he was, he produced one moment that could have led to a goal with the scooped pass for Saka whose shot was deflected.

Hopefully, with Gyokeres in the team, he forms some sort of understanding with him, something new for him to work on rather than the Saka, White triangles of old. Also, I do hope Nwaneri can put more pressure on him with his performances cause Ode needs some competition.

I thought he was alright tbh. Some lovely pieces of skill aswell.

Final ball was bad but that was in part due too a lot of dead brain runs. I also thought he was one of our better players (although a low bar). I’d say he was more influential than any of our attackers or Rice.

There was a move in the first half, Gyok and Saka making good runs ahead of him, but he just dilly dallied on the ball and wasted the chance. I think United had a great chance from the counter that developed as well. He’s very frustrating at times.

He also ran his ass off during the match and as you say done a few quality passes. Everyone had a bad day yesterday. I expect a much better performance from him against Leeds.

He definitely fucked quite a lot of final passes on the transition but so did others.
He was our best midfielder and probably the most active out of our front 6.

I’ll give you he carried over his form from last season, that is the good form he showed towards the end.
Great performance at Anfield and now a decent showing at Old Trafford.
And that’s from a player that has been really suspect in these big away games even at his best. That’s very promising for me.
