Emery being a mental midget doesn’t in anyway make Arteta more or less backed in my book, it simply means that Emery wasn’t professional enough or brave enough to go after who and what he wanted, instead he wasted his backing and all of our time.
Good to get Martin Ø back. Quality player.
Lucas Torreira hasn’t been sold/loan, so will Odegaard get the #11 shirt again?
I reckon he’ll get 8. As much as I want it to happen, don’t think Aouar is happening
I have to say if you’re going to base your whole argument on
and then come up with the shit above, you lose any credibility.
Emery was hired as a head coach who’d had experience working in a similar structure of;
Identify profile of player you require
Leave it to scouting team / directors to find said player that fits profile
Sign player.
Arteta had his role changer to manager and it was specifically stated he’d be part of the transfer process now. Emery was never part of this and that’s the difference.

Honestly man when you start saying Emery gets a pass because they weren’t players he favoured then you fall into the category of condoning Wenger’s acquisition of the likes Mustafi et al because they were StatDNA signings which is peak troll debate on here and I know that annoys you too haha. Not even going to waste my time with whatever Gladiator is going on about but at the end of the day if you get 200 million spent on you and you’re crying because they weren’t your boys then you fucked up even if you are just head coach.
Doesn’t fly for me at all, it’s still financial backing through the roof and it’s certainly not a stick to beat Arteta with just because he has the balls to chase a superior title and attack the players he wants in his squad.
Should he start vs Chelsea?
Or is ESR in better form and match fit?
I think this is bullshit and a bit of a false narrative because really and truly our squad has been good enough to compete for a top 4 place every since Wenger left, but our managers have been shit.
Odegaard was ok and no one is saying he isn’t good enough, but a)he didn’t have the same impact as Saka and b)he WAS part of the team who finished 8th. Odegaard is touted as potential world class talent, but for me personally and other fans it remains to be seen if that is the case. I won’t be to hard on him because it would be near enough impossible for any player to shine under that football terrorist and I’m still hoping he does come good and for the price there really isn’t much room for argument.
I will say though this narrative that our team just isn’t good enough to finish above 8th is absolute bollocks and totally absurd, our team was worse during our first season under Emery and we finished just 1 point of top four. Like someone else said if Arteta needed 11 new players then he wasn’t the guy for us.
Will be tight to be registered for the game against Chelsea then, although I don’t think that is a big deal in the bigger picture.
I’m not saying he gets a pass I’m saying that Arteta has been backed to a greater degree and has more trust than Emery every did
Also not to keep this dragging on but I remember Emery mentioning he absolutely had a seat at the table with Sven and was involved in discussions, he should have been stronger and pushed for more authority. But this idea that he wasn’t even involved in the discussion and therefore it wasn’t a true backing is a myth.
This was in regard to Dennis Suarez who was obviously one of Emery’s boys, so it’s not like he was completely on the outside looking in. He was just a weak character and backing him set us back. We gave him a lot of time and money and ultimately all we got out of it was “I watched x,y, and z.”
Also I don’t necessarily disagree with this point man, I feel like it’s simply just not a case of Emery and late era Wenger were hard done by in regard to players in and that Arteta has been given the keys to the kingdom, which is what I disagreed with to begin with and that finances literally state not to be the case. Everything else is just assumption and conjecture.
At least this is a reasonably fair way to look at it. The only downside is the lack of money we can get from sales isn’t all his fault, they were signed and proven shit long before he joined.
Tbh it’s just disappointing how much we have messed around even if he has been backed. AMN should’ve been sold for 20m, Bellerin and Xhaka for 10-15m each and Auba should’ve never gotten the new deal. Then our squad might be in half decent shape with a lower net spend.
This club just pisses money away whether you think they’re backing Arteta or not, it’s been a shambles for the last 5 years at minimum when dealing with transfers and contracts. At least in the first decade of the Emirates the deals roughly made sense even when they pissed us off (RVP 24m etc).
Add to that the tragic management of assets like Guen and Saliba, it is soul-crushing.
Wenger and Emery got the money at the end as well, the former just pissed it away on Xhaka and Mustafi alongside the deals for Auba and Laca (~160m total for the 4).
Emery meanwhile was given a fair shot to sign players and did seem to fill the holes we had, just the players didn’t have a shelf life of more than 1 season…the only argument for Emery is that he may have wanted other players instead.
Now we are 3 managers into our post-Wenger era (yes i’m counting Freddie), they have little choice but to accept the squad is shit and needs money to revamp it. Had Arteta come before Emery and the roles been reversed, I think we’d be seeing the same thing transfer wise but obviously in Emery’s favour.
Summary - I think the only reason we are spending more / making a greater number of changes is because we are shitter than we were 3 years ago and the club is desperate.
How did OA managed a long winded conversation without involving me or @BigWeng_4LYFE?
I completely agree but it just seems like all people want to do is create new ways to destroy Arteta’s credibility and there are already so many realistic frailties in his game to pick from.
Even if you count Ramsdale we aren’t even there yet, in terms of number or cost.
@Trion A4tt literally the biggest believer that Arteta is the most backed Arsenal manager of all time lol.
Am I stupid to think that Odegaard could play behind ESR and reduce the reliance on Xhaka so our midfield would be:
Might actually get to use the attacking talent in our team then.
Chambere is a very fullbackesque name compared to Chambers
It’s weak in the middle but I think at home against our fellow bottom half shitters, we should try this.
